LHS tennis teams competes at Madison

The Lennox High School girls’ tennis team traveled to Madison on Thursday, Oct. 1 for their last match of the season.  The day kicked off with junior varsity singles with the Orioles taking a 10-6 lead from wins by Sierra Wesseling, Kenzie Bosma, Izzy Gerdes, Tori Gerdes, Marin Bartscher, Karissa Iken, Sophia Onnen, Ava Elk Boy, Lily Kezar and Olivia Wallenstein.  

In doubles, Madison came away with a 5-4 edge, but wins were earned by Gracie Wood and I. Gerdes, Elk Boy and T. Gerdes, Bartscher and Nora Asturiza and Alaysia Young and Brooklyn Fodness. In the end, the Orioles won the dual 14-10.  

In varsity action, the O’s took a 2-1 lead after three competitive and close doubles matches. Wins were earned by Brooke Buehner and Karlie Bosma at Flight #1 and from Ella Ellwein and Maliyah Hofer at Flight #2. The duo of Kenzie Bosma and Peyton Herlyn at Flight #3 dropped a close match in a match tiebreaker.

In singles action, the Orioles again had some close and competitive matches.  Buehner and Ellwein both played one of her best matches of the season and competed hard until the end, but neither one was able come away with the win. But Asturiza at Flight #2, Herlyn at Flight #3, Hofer at Flight #5 and Wood at Flight #6  all came away with a win which secured the 6-3 team win for the Orioles.  

The Orioles finished the season 4-8 overall and 4-5 in Class A competition.
