LHS tennis team wraps up regular season

On May 8, the Lennox High School boys’ tennis team took on St. Thomas More. The match started with doubles where they had three close and competitive matches.
The team of Eli Plank and Connor Sherard at flight #1 got the win 10-1. Noah Buhta and Chase Lundquist lost a close one 5-10 at flight #2 and Wyatt Holland and Duncan Jonson dropped another close match 8-10. In singles, wins were scored by Eli Plank at flight #1 and Connor Sherard at flight #2.
“Unfortunately after some tough battles, these were the only wins the Orioles recorded,” said LHS head coach Kevin Plank. The Cavaliers won the meet 6-3.
The team then took on Huron on May 8. Again, the match started with doubles competition where they had close matches, but in th end, all three flights were won by the Tigers 10-9(6), 10-1 and 10-4.
In singles, the O’s had some competitive matches but could only come away with one win from Plank at flight #1. The Tigers took the win 8-1.
On Friday, May 9 the Orioles participated in the Pierre invite. There were seven schools competing where each flight in singles and doubles are seeded into bracket play.
The day started with doubles with the teams of Plank and Sherard earning fourth place at flight #1, Chase Lundquist and Noah Buhta earning seventh place at flight #2 and Wyatt Holland and Duncan Johnson earning fourth place finish at flight #3. In singles, Plank earned a second-place finish at flight #1, Sherard finished fourth at flight #2, Buhta earned a fifth place at flight #4 and Duncan Johnson earned a fourth place finish at flight #6.
On May 13th the team traveled to Madison for their last match of the season.
The varsity team earned the team win 6-3 with singles wins from Plank at flight #1, Sherard at flight #2, Holland at flight #3 and Johnson at flight #4. In doubles Plank and Sherard got the win at flight #1 and Holland and Johnson won at flight #3.
The JV team also competed in their last meet of the season. Single wins were earned by Noah Buhta 8-1, Easton Timmermans 8-3, Grant Buhta 8-5, Atticus Larson 8-2, Grant Veurink 8-2, Carter Beringer 8-2, Kodi Scott 8-3 and Blake Holland 8-5.
In doubles, wins were earned by Larson and Timmermans 8-3, Buhta and Buhta 8-1, Matt Dummer and Beringer 8-7(7-3) and B. Holland and Veurink 8-7(8-6). In the end, the JV team competed at all flights and had some great matches, and ended up tying the Bulldogs 12-12.
The LHS varsity team competed in the Class A State Tournament in Sioux Falls on Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, 20. Deadlines prohibit the results from being published. Watch next week’s paper for full coverage.
