LHS tennis team takes on Madison during Senior Recognition night

The Orioles girls tennis team hosted Madison Tuesday, Sept. 8 for their senior night. The day started off with JV singles where the Orioles posted a 11-3 lead with wins by Sierra Wesseling, Reba Schroeder, Peyton Herlyn, Kenzi Bosma, Izzy Gerdes, Tori Gerdes, Karissa Iken, Sophia Onnen, Ava Elk Boy, Lily Kezar and Aleysia Young.
In JV doubles the Orioles took six of the ten matches with wins by the duos of Wood and I. Gerdes, Alustiza and T. Gerdes, Elk Boy and Marin Bartscher, Kezar and Iken, Zada Storm and Onnen, and Oliva Wallenstein and Maddie Klenner. Overall the O’s came away with a 17-7 win over the Bulldogs.
Before the varsity match, the six seniors were recognized, which includes Karlie Bosma, Kenzie Bosma, Brooke Buehner, Peyton Herlyn, Ariana Poppens and Reba Schroeder.
“This is always a bittersweet moment, it’s fun to recognize the seniors but yet it’s sad to know this is their last season. And no matter how many years these senior have been on the team, they have made a positive impact to the team,” said LHS head coach Kevin Plank.
After the recognition, the varsity team took the courts. The dual started out with doubles with the O‘s taking a two-to-one lead by getting wins from the duos of Brooke Buehner and Karlie Bosma at flight #1 and Peyton Herlyn and Kenzie Bosma at flight #3.
In singles, Lennox and Madison split at 3-3 with wins scored by Karlie Bosma at flight #3, Maliyah Hofer at flight #5 and Gracie Wood at flight #6. The three singles wins gave the Orioles the 5-4 team victory.
The Orioles host Rapid City Christian in Lennox on Sept. 19 at 1:30 p.m. They will travel to Milbank on Tuesday, Sept. 22 to face off against Milbank and Aberdeen Roncalli. They will be in Madison on Thursday, Sept. 24.
