LHS tennis team takes on Bucks, Tanagers and compete in Madison Invite

On Monday, Aug. 18 the Lennox High School girls’ tennis team traveled to Yankton to take on the Bucks and the Vermillion Tanagers.
The Orioles first faced off against a Bucks’ team which featured last year’s class AA State Champion. The varsity team had some close matches and competed hard, but unfortunately in the end the Bucks pulled out the win 6-3.
Wins in singles were scored Brianna Slack at Flight #4, Miriam Welch at Flight #5 and Ella Ellwein at Flight #6.
The Junior Varsity also competed and took the win 8-6 with wins in singles coming from Holly Gillick, Maliyah Hofer, Peyton Herlyn, Josephine Plucker, Kenzie Bosma and Mia Hanisch.
In doubles, wins were scored by the duos of Herlyn and Hofer and Kenzie Bosma and Plucker.
The teams then took on Vermillion, and again had some close matches in doubles and singles, but dropped the dual 2-7.
The JV team also played some strong matches and played well, and in the end tied with Vermillion 6-6. The wins were scored by Sierra Wesseling, Hofer, Plucker and Kenzie Bosma in singles. The doubles teams of Plucker and Hanisch and Kenzie Bosma and Annika Winterboer also recorded wins.
On Friday, Aug. 22 and Saturday, Aug. 23 the varsity competed at the Madison Invite in Madison. All eleven Class A teams competed in doubles on Friday. Wins in doubles were scored by Karlie Bosma and Slack at Flight #2 over Milbank and Madison to earn fifth place.
Singles were then played on Saturday, and wins were scored by Brooke Buehner at Flight #1 over Huron, Karlie Bosma at Flight #2 over Pierre and Huron, Wallenstein at Flight #3 over Millbank and Madison, Slack at Flight #4 over Spearfish, Welch at Flight #5 over Milbank and Ellwein at Flight #6 over Spearfish and Pierre.
The varsity and junior varsity teams were to compete at Kuehn Park in Sioux Falls against the Roosevelt Rough Riders and the Brooking Lynx on Monday, Aug. 25.
Lennox will be at Sioux Falls Christian on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
