The Lennox High School tennis teams traveled to Yankton Tuesday, April 29.  The day started off with the Varsity team taking on the Bucks in doubles.  The teams of Eli Plank/Connor Sherard, Chase Lundquist/Noah Buhta and Wyatt Holland/Duncan Jonson competed at the #1-3 varsity spots, respectively.  The Bucks strong team was too much as Lennox dropped all three doubles matches. The teams then competed in singles, and even though the O’s competed and played some good tennis, the Bucks proved to be too strong again and swept all the singles matches to take the 9-0 team victory.

Lennox then moved on to play Vermilion. The match started with doubles where the team of Plank/Sherard took the win 6-0, 6-1, but unfortunately, flights #2 and #3 weren’t able to pull out their doubles’ win.  In singles Plank cruised to another win at flight #1 6-1, 6-0 and Wyatt Holland pulled out a win a tough match 6-4, 6-4 at flight #5.  Johnson played a strong match too at flight #6, but couldn’t quite hold on as he dropped it 6-4, 5-7, (5-10). In the end the Tanagers took the team win 6-3.

In JV action, wins were earned by the duos of Atticus Larson/Grant Buhta 10-9 (7-0), Matt Dummer/Veurink 10-7, Carter Beringer/Wyatt Chrichton 6-3, Chase Gervais/Kodi Scott 6-0 and Jack Wildeboer/David Hofer 6-4. In singles wins were earned by Veurink 10-2, Beringer 8-6 and Blake Holland 6-2.

On Friday, May 2 the varsity team competed in the Sioux Falls Christian invite. Lennox began the Invite with a match-up against Milbank at Tomar Park where they earned a hard-fought team win 5-4. Singles wins were scored by Plank at flight #1, Sherard at #2, W. Holland at #5 and Johnson at #6.  And in doubles, wins were scored by W. Holland/Johnson at flight #3.

Still on Friday, the team traveled back to Lennox to take on Spearfish where the Orioles took the team win 7-2.  Wins were scored in doubles by the duo of Plank/Sherard 6-1, 6-2. The Orioles swept the all six singles, earning wins in flight #1-#6 respectively by Plank, Sherard, Lundquist, Buhta, Holland and Johnson. Wins were also earned by Cam Smith/Easton Timmermans in doubles 10-5 and by both of them in singles.

On Saturday, May 3 the team started the day in Lennox where they took on Aberdeen Roncalli in some very competitive matches that went down the wire.  Wins were earned in doubles by Plank/Sherard 4-6, 6-4 (10-4) and by Smith/Timmermans 10-6.  In singles, wins were earned by Plank at flight #1, 6-5(4), 6-5(5), Sherard 6-5(5), 6-4 and Timmermans 8-6.  All the matches were close and the Orioles competed hard, but in the end, Roncalli took the team win 6-3.

The Orioles then took on Pierre in their last match of the weekend. Again, there were some very competitive matches that came down the end, but Lennox could only pull-out wins from Cam Smith/Duncan Johnson at #3 doubles, and from Eli Plank at #1 and Buhta at #4 singles. In the end, the Governors took the team win 6-3

The Orioles will travel to Pierre to take on St. Thomas More and Huron on Thursday, May 8 and will compete in the Pierre invite May 9.
