Eli Plank earns 100th career victory: LHS tennis team takes on Roosevelt, Brandon Valley, Pierre, Huron

This past week, Eli Plank (pictured at right) reached 100 varsity wins. Eli has been on varsity since seventh grade and has worked his way up the line up each year and this season he surpassed 100 varsity wins in singles and doubles. Plank is the second player in school history to reach this milestone and now has the second most varsity wins in school history behind his brother, Jaxon Plank.
On May 4 the Lennox High School boys’ tennis team took on Sioux Falls Roosevelt in Sioux Falls. The dual started with doubles with Eli Plank and Wyatt Holland, Duncan Johnson and Chase Lundquist and Riley Nelson and Cam Smith all earning wins at Flights #1-3 respectively. In singles all six players also earned wins, which gave the Orioles a 9-0 sweep of the Rough Riders.
In JV action, single wins were earned by Easton Timmermans, Grant Buhta, Carter Beringer, Matt Dummer, Sawyer Johnson and Wyatt Crichton. In doubles wins were earned by Timmermans and Buhta, Dummer and Beringer and S. Johnson and Beringer, which gave the JV team a 9-0 sweep as well.
Next up, the Orioles took on Brandon Valley. Lennox had some competitive matches in doubles but could only come away with one win from Smith and Nelson at Flight #3.
Singles proved to be a tough battle too where wins were only earned by Plank at Flight #1 and Nelson at Flight #5. In the end, the Lynx took the team win 6-3.
On May 7th the team traveled to Pierre to take on the Governors and Huron.
In doubles, Lundquist and Johnson took the win 10-3 at Flight #2. Huron took the team win 7-2. Plank won at #1 singles and Plank and Holland won at Flight #1 doubles.
On Friday, May 8th the team participated in the Pierre Invite. This event consisted of six Class A teams and was played in a tournament bracket format. The team competed hard all day and came away some great results.
In singles, Eli Plank won the consolation champ at Flight #1. Duncan Johnson earned fourth place at Flight #3. Chase Lundquist earned second place at Flight #4. Riley Nelson claimed the Champion title at Flight #5, and Cam Smith took second place at Flight #6.
In doubles, there wasn’t a full bracket due to the number of teams, but Plank and Holland went 2-1 at Flight #1 and Nelson and Smith went 2-1 at Flight #3.
The LHS Orioles were scheduled to travel to Madison on Tuesday, May 12th for their last regular season match. The team will compete in the 2026 State Tournament in Rapid City on May 18th and 19th.
State Tournament action is set to begin on Monday, May 18 at 8 a.m. at Sioux Park in Rapid City with doubles. Singles begin at Sioux Park and Parkview at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 18.
On Tuesday, May 19 action begins at Sioux Park at 8 a.m. Times are approximate and the schedule is subject to change due to weather. It will be a rolling schedule.
