Tennis enjoys busy week

On August 21-22 the Lennox High School girls tennis team traveled to Madison for the Madison invite. Due to the nature of the event, no team points were awarded. 

On Friday everyone played three singles matches and coming away with wins were Brooke Buehner against Huron and Aberdeen Roncalli; Nora Alustiza Roitegui against Spearfish; Karlie Bosma against Huron and Pierre; Maliyah Hofer against Pierre, and Gracie Wood against Vermillion.  

On Saturday Aug. 22 everyone played three doubles matches, and coming away with wins were Buehner and Karlie Bosma against Milbank, and Ella Ellwein and Hofer against Milbank. 

On Thursday, August 27, Millbank traveled to Lennox for a JV and varsity match-up. The Orioles JV team took a 12 to 7 lead after singles by getting wins from Reba Schroeder, Peyton Herlyn, Izzy Gerdes, Marin Bartscher, Tori Gerdes, Zeda Storm, Sophia Onnen, Ava Elk Boy, Olivia Wallenstein, Alissa Johanson, Alaysia Young and Brooklyn Fodness. 

In doubles the JV team took five of the nine matches with wins scored by the teams of Sierra Wesseling and Schroeder, Wood and Izzy Gerdes, Sophia Onnen and Storm, Tori Gerdes and Elk Boy, Maddie Klenner and Wallenstein. In the end, the JV team came away with a 17-11 team win. 

The varsity team started with doubles where Lennox got the win at flight one with Buehner and Karlie Bosma and at flight three with Herlyn and Alustiza to take a 2-1 edge into singles.  

In singles, wins were scored by Alustiza at #2, Karlie Bosma at #3, Ella Ellwein at #4, Maliyah Hofer at #5 and Gracie Wood at #6, giving the Orioles the 7-2 team win.  

The LHS Orioles will compete in a JV and Varsity match-up in Lennox on Sept. 8 for senior night against Madison. JV is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with varsity to follow.
