LHS tennis team takes on Bulldogs, Aberdeen Roncalli

On Tuesday, Sept. 23 the Lennox High School Oriole girls’ tennis team traveled to Milbank to take on the Bulldogs and Aberdeen Roncalli.
The day started off with doubles with Brooke Buehner and Macy Wallenstein at Flight #1 dropping a close match 10-6, but Briana Slack and Karlie Bosma at Flight #2 and Miriam Welch and Ella Ellwein at Flight #3 scored wins 10-3 and 10-8 respectively to take a 2-1 team lead going into singles.
Buehner at #1 singles and Slack at #4 singles lost competitive matches 10-5 and 10-9 respectively, but wins were scored by Bosma, Wallenstein, Welch and Ellwein in singles to secure the 6-3 team win over the Bulldogs.
In Junior Varsity action, doubles wins were scored by Gracie Wood and Maliyah Hofer, Peyton Herlyn and Kenzie Bosma, Sierra Wesseling and Lily Kezar, Izzy Gerdes and Karissa Iken, Mia Hanisch and Josephine Plucker and Marin Bartscher and Annika Wildeboer to take an 8-6 lead into singles play. In singles, wins were scored by Wood, Hofer, Reba Schroeder and Sierra Wesseling to give the O’s a 12-6 victory over the Bulldogs.
Next up, the Orioles took on the Cavaliers. The varsity match started with doubles with Buehner and Wallenstein taking a 10-5 win at Flight #1 and Karlie Bosma and Briana Slack taking a 10-4 win at Flight #2. Welch and Ellwein at Flight #3 dropped a close match 10-6, but the O’s gained a 2-1 team lead going into singles. In singles, wins were scored by Buehner, Karlie Bosma, Wallenstein and Slack to give the team a 6-3 win.
In Junior Varsity action wins were scored by Wood and Hofer, Plucker and Hanisch, Schroeder and Wesseling, Herlyn and Kenzie Bosma, Winterboer and Kezar and Gerdes and Iken.
Due to limited court availability and scheduling, only one JV singles match was played, in which Marin Bartscher took the win 6-1. In the end, the O’s took a dominant 7-1 win over the Cavaliers.
Next up, the Orioles were scheduled to travel to Sioux Falls for the DAK XII invite on Tuesday, Sept. 30 and will have their last regular season meet of the season at Madison on Thursday, Oct. 2. The varsity team will compete at the State Tournament in Sioux Falls on October 6 and 7.
