LHS tennis season underway

After a slow start due to weather, the Lennox High School boys’ tennis team got their season underway last week playing their first match of the season in Mitchell on Monday, Apr. 17.

The Varsity dropped the match 3-6 with wins coming by Jaxon Plank at #1 singles, Andrew Daugherty and #3 singles and the duo of J. Plank and Cody Plank at #1 doubles.

“We also had two other matches go into a third set tie break, so the team match could have gone either way,” said LHS head coach Kevin Plank. “For our first match of the season, I thought we played well and competed hard.”

The Junior Varsity also played against Mitchell and sored singles wins from Cam Smith, Cameron Keatley, Maverick Horst, Davin Cwach and Easton Timmermans. Wins in doubles came from the teams of Ethan Lundquist and Will Hoppe, Scout Nelson and Grant Buhta, Chase Gervais and Carter Beringer and Brennen Juffer and Chase Lundquist,

On Thursday, Apr. 20 the Orioles traveled to Yankton to play Rapid City Christian.

“They finished second at state last year so we knew it was going to be a tough match up,” said Plank.

At flight #1 singles Jaxon Plank went toe to toe with last year’s flight #1 state champion, but ended up losing 8-10 in the match tie breaker in a highly competitive match.

Andrew Daugherty and Eli Plank scored singles wins at flights #3 and #5 respectively, but the team dropped the dual 2-7 to the Comets.

The Orioles were scheduled to travel to Brandon Valley on Apr. 24 to take on Brandon Valley and Sioux Falls Roosevelt. On Apr. 25 the team was scheduled to head back to Yankton to take on Yankton and Vermillion.

On Saturday, Apr. 29 the Varsity will play at Tomar Park in Sioux Falls taking on Sioux Falls Christian and Harrisburg starting at 12:00 p.m. The Junior Varsity will play at Harrisburg against Sioux Falls Christian on Saturday.
