LHS boys tennis team wins home match-up against Milbank

On Monday, April 20, the Lennox High School boys’ tennis team traveled to Tomar Park in Sioux Falls for a triangular meet against Mitchell and SF Christian.  

The varsity squad started the day off playing doubles against Mitchell.  

The Flight #1 duo of Eli Plank and Wyatt Holland started off strong with a 6-3 first set win, but Mitchell battled back to take the second set 6-1 and the match tie breaker 10-3.  Duncan Johnson and Chase Lundquist at Flight #2 and Riley Nelson and Cam Smith at Flight #3 had competitive matches as well, but Mitchell was able to take the win at both flights to take a 3-0 lead going into singles.  

In singles action, Plank earned the win at Flight #1 6-2, 6-4, but unfortunately, Mitchell was too strong at the other flights and earned wins at Flights #2-#6 to take the 8-1 victory.  

In the JV action, the Orioles competed hard and had some close matches, but could only pull out one win, in doubles from the duo of Chase Gervais and Kelton Smith in a tiebreaker.  In the end, Mitchell took the JV win 20-1.

The Orioles then took on the top team in Class A, Sioux Falls Christian.  

“The team came out with more energy and confidence and played some great tennis,” said LHS head coach Kevin Plank. 

Plank and Holland at Flight #1 doubles played a competitive match, and Easton Timmermans and Grant Buhta also played a close and competitive match.  

In singles action, the team competed hard again, but unfortunately, the Chargers were too strong and took the overall team wins 9-1.

In JV action, there were some very competitive matches and close scores.  Gervais and K. Smith and Zach Boysen and Kodi Scott earned doubles wins.  Singles wins were earned by K. Smith, Scott, Boysen, and Sawyer Johnson.  But in the end, the Chargers took the overall team win 25-6

On Thursday, April 23, the Milbank Bulldogs traveled to Lennox. The team came out poised and ready to play and took a commanding 3-0 team lead after doubles wins were scored by Plank and Holland, Johnson and Lundquist, and Nelson and C. Smith.  Then, in singles wins were earned by Plank, Johnson, Lundquist, Nelson and C. Smith to take the team wins 8-1.  

In JV action, doubles wins were earned by Timmermans and Buhta and Carter Beringer and Matt Dummer. In singles, wins were earned by Timmermans, Buhta, Beringer and Dummer to secure the 6-0 team win.

Next up the LHS varsity team travels to Tomar Park in Sioux Falls on Friday, May 1 to take on Spearfish and Rapid City Christian. On Saturday, May 2 Lennox will host Aberdeen Roncalli and St. Thomas More.
