LHS boys go 2-1 last week

After a busy week last week, the Lennox High School boys’ basketball team went 2-1 on the week defeating Elk Point Jefferson on the road, Jan. 30 and Viborg Hurley at the Sanford Pentagon, Feb. 3. The Orioles fell to Western Christian, Iowa on Feb. 1.

“Last week we had a couple of battles against some good teams. Elk Point was a typical Dak XII slugfest. There aren’t any easy games in our conference but that’s why many of our games are fun to watch,” said LHS head coach Chris Buckmiller. “Western Christian out played us on both sides of the floor. It was a humbling experience that will help us get better. Beyond our conference schedule, I will always look for games that will challenge our team to best prepare us for playoffs. Our Western Christian game will always be one of our toughest games on our schedule. Against Viborg Hurley, we held them to 39 points. I believe that’s the lowest a team has scored in my three years as a coach here in Lennox. Our defense has drastically improved since the beginning of the season and we look to improve it even through the last month of our regular season, I know, by doing this work.”

Against Elk Point, Lennox grabbed the narrow 75-72 victory.  Porter Ihnen led the way for Lennox with 31 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Talan Diercks finished with 14 points, two rebounds, three assists and three steals. Boston Katzer added 10 points, had one rebound, one assist and one steal. Braxton Musser provided seven points, grabbed five rebounds, had two assists and two steals. Tate Gerdes also had seven points and led the team in assists with six. He also had two steals and three rebounds. Talen Eich finished with three points, Trey Gerdes with two, and Cloy McVey with one.

Lennox lost to Western Christian, Iowa 68-49 on Feb. 1. Three Orioles were in double figures with Ihnen scoring 12 points, Diercks scoring 10 points, and Tate Gerdes adding 10 points as well. Musser finished with eight points, while Layton Smith, Katzer, and Jaxson Bittner had three each. Tate Gerdes pulled down the most rebounds for Lennox with 10 in the game. He also had four assists. Ihnen grabbed nine rebounds.

At the Pentagon on Saturday, Feb. 3, Lennox defeated Viborg Hurley, #1 in Class B, 55-39.
