Lennox boys’ tennis team named Pierre Invite Champions



The boys’ tennis team traveled to Pierre on Thursday, May 4 to compete in three duals. To start the day off, the Orioles took on Pierre.

“We started off with some solid play while sweeping all three doubles matches and then finished strong while taking five of the six singles matches while only dropping one match to win the dual 8-1,” said LHS head coach Kevin Plank.

Following their match-up against Pierre, the Orioles took on Huron and again started off strong in doubles by winning two of the three doubles, and then closed out the win 6-3 by winning four of the six singles matches.

Lennox finished the day by playing St. Thomas More and didn’t drop a match giving them a 9-0 win. This gave the team a sweep for the day and improved their team record to 6-4 on the season.

The Orioles stayed out in Pierre on Friday, May 5 to compete in the Pierre invite. This flighted tournament featured eight teams competing for individual and team results.

Lennox ended the Invite as the overall team champions with 377 points and earned individual championships in five of the nine flights.

The singles results in flights #1-6 respectively were: Jaxon Plank-1st place, Cody Plank, 1st place, Andrew Daugherty-2nd place, Gunnar Geiken-2nd place, Eli Plank-2nd place, Noah Welch-4th place.

The doubles results in flights #1-3 respectively were: J. Plank/C. Plank-1st place, Daugherty/E. Plank-1st place, Geiken/Welch-3rd place.

Notable results from the two days in Pierre were Jaxon Plank going 12-0 in doubles and singles; Cody Plank going 11-1 in doubles and singles; Andrew Daugherty going 12-0 in doubles and singles; Eli Plank going 11-1 in doubles and singles; and Gunnar Geiken going 9-3 in double singles,

The Lennox Junior Varsity also defeated Pierre, Huron and St Thomas More on Thursday, May 4. For the day Pierce Temme went 2-2, Mitch Van Meeteren went 4-0 and Camden Faulds went 2-3.

On Friday, May 5 during the Invite Temme went 2-3 and Van Meeteren went 1-4 for the JV team.

The LHS tennis team now prepares for the State Tournament which will be held in Sioux Falls at Tomar Park on May 15-16.
