This years’ Angel Quilt raffle underway

By Garrett Ammesmaki,

Editor

With October comes pregnancy and infant loss awareness month, as well as the annual Angel Albums fundraiser.

Angel Albums are scrapbooks for families who have lost an infant and are available in hospitals across South Dakota. They are designed by Rebecca Hanson.

Hanson started the Angel Albums program in 2003, after the loss of her infant daughter Brenna.

Creation and distribution of the albums are funded in large part by raffle sales for the Angel Quilt throughout the month of October.

The quilts are made by Carolyn Goudy-Carlson, who got involved with Angel Albums after the lost her own daughter Samantha in 2013 to adult SIDS.

“I’m so grateful that Rebecca lets me make a quilt each year to donate as a fundraiser,” said Goudy-Carlson. “It is a way for me to honor Samantha and to do something special in her memory.”

This year’s quilt is called “Floral Fancy,” and is a 64x69 hand appliqué on Dresden plate. Fabrics used for it are from the Garden Life Collection by Tula Fabrics.

Winners of this years’ raffle will receive the quilt, while second place winners will receive an 18-inch doll and handmade doll cloths.

Tickets will be available throughout the month of October. The drawing will be held in the middle of November, live on the Angel Albums Facebook page.

The annual raffle helps provide Angel Albums to nine different hospitals across the state. Those hospitals are in Yankton, Vermillion, Sioux Falls, Mitchell, Madison and Brookings, Watertown and Aberdeen.

If you’d like to enter the raffle, you can mail a check made out to Angel Albums at 27807 469th Avenue. Lennox, SD, 57039. Entrants must provide their name and their phone number.
