On Monday, June 3 and Tuesday, June 4 the top girls’ golfers from across the State took to the course at Bakker Crossing to compete in the 2024 State A Meet.
Among the competitors was Lennox High School’s Ashlee Sweeter. Sweeter had a fantastic showing and tied for fifth among the highly competitive field.
“Ashlee worked really hard this year to accomplish this goal. With her strong determination combined with her confidence and composure, she played two of the best rounds of her high school career,” said LHS head girls’ golf coach Angela Zirpel. “It can be extremely difficult to have two great rounds back-to-back at a state golf tournament and Ashlee did just that.”
On day one, Monday, June 3, Sweeter finished her 18 holes with a score of 79, shooting a 39 on the front nine and a 40 on the back. Her day was highlighted with a birdie on the back nine.
On day two, Tuesday, June 4, Sweeter shot an 80, with a 43 on the front nine and a 37 on the back. Sweeter hit two birdies in the round. Sweeter’s two day total was 159. Sweeter’s performance also earned her All-Tournament Team honors. Sweeter has committed to continue her golf career at Dordt.
Winning the 2024 State A individual title was Kaitlin Strain from St. Thomas More whose two-day total was 152. The team title went to Sioux Falls Christian.
