Shooting an 84 on the day, Lennox High School’s Ashlee Sweeter earned third place honors at the West Central Invite held at the Central Valley Golf Course on May 9. Sweeter was just six strokes off of first place finisher Olivia Sortie of Canton, who shot a 78 to win the Invite.
Also finishing strong for Lennox was Gracie Dose, who shot a 98 on the day to tie for 23rd place. Jazlyn Gayle shot a 99 to tie for 25th, Courtney Sandal a 106 to tie for 44th, Madison Stengrim a 112 to tie for 53, and Jada Severson a 113 to tie for 55th.
As a team, the Orioles finished fifth with a team score of 387. Sioux Falls Christian won the team title with a score of 363. Vermillion took second, Elk Point Jefferson third, and Canton fourth. There were 12 complete teams competing at the Invite.
On May 12, the LHS golfers competed in the Madison Invite. Sweeter once again led the Lennox team, shooting a 94 on the day to tie for seventh. Sandal shot a 102 on the day to take 23rd, Dose took 32nd with a 109 and Gayle also shot a 109, finishing in 33rd. Stengrim finished with a 126 to take 50th.
As a team, the Orioles finished in fourth place. Winning the Madison Invite was Sioux Valley. Madison took second and Dell Rapids third. There were nine complete teams competing.
Lennox was scheduled to compete in the Vermillion Invite on Monday, May 16 and will compete in the Dak XII Conference Invite on Monday, May 23 at Bakker Crossing. The Region 2A Golf Tournament will also be held on May 31 at Bakker Crossing with the Class A Girls State Golf Tournament scheduled for June 6-7, also at Bakker Crossing.
