Swanson, Schmidt lead LHS cross country opener at Beresford

Sam Swanson led the way for the LHS boys’ varsity team taking eigth place at Beresford


The Lennox High School Cross Country Team opened their 2022 season this past Friday, Aug. 26 traveling to Beresford to compete in the Beresford Invite. With nearly 580 athletes from 27 different schools, the LHS athletes held their own and managed to walk away with some medal winners.


The day started with the varsity girls’ 5K race. Leading the way For Lennox was Kelsey Schmidt who earned 12th place, earning her a medal in the event. Schmidt finished with a time of 20:33.93.


Emily Plucker finished 22nd for the Orioles with a time of 21:26.44. Karlie Bosma took 37th place clocking a time of 22:31.44. Josephine Plucker finished 41st (22:54.65), and Graycee Postma took 47th (23.28.13).


As a team the LHS girls took sixth. Winning the title for the varsity girls was the team from Sioux Falls Christin. Chester Area’s Larson Emery took individual top honors with her time of 18:58.57.


The varsity boys took to the course next. Lennox had two medal winners as Sam Swanson took eighth with a time of 16:56.22 and Cloy McVey took 20th with a time of 17:27.38.


Noah Sayler took 31st for the Orioles with a time of 18:27.92. Maverick Horst finished 35th (18:35.97) and Chett Jibben 53rd (19:50.62).


As a team, the LHS boys finished third. Taking the team title at the Beresford Invite was Sioux Falls Christian.


Individually, Isaac Davelaar of Sioux Falls Christian won the title with a time of 15:53.84.


In Junior Varsity action, Jersie Hostetler led the way in the 4K girls’ race with a time of 17:02.84. Lennox’s Regan Van Meeteren took 12th with a time of 18:49.33 and Callie Hammerstrom took 58th with a time of 23:31.71.


For the JV boys, Lennox’s Lucas Hartman led the way for the Orioles with a time of 15:32.71, taking fifth place. Elijah Johnson finished in 15th place (16:07.88), Noah Wood 24th (16:37.09), Landon Atkins 31st (16:51.67), Tarles Antoine 47th (17:28.97),

Noah Werner 54th (17:52.23), Cameron Keatley 74th (18:51.13), Caleb Ellwein 91st (19:58.37), Jack Aasheim 92nd (19:58.68), and Karson Iken 109th (22:08.84).


A Junior High boys and girls 3K race also took place.


For the girls, Lennox was led by Kaydence Gerry who clocked a time of 14:20.84. Madison Eden clocked a 14:45.21, Kassidy Williamson a 14:45.65, and Olivia Homan a 16:27.29.


For the boys, Isaak Booker led Lennox with a time of 11:42.70. Cedric Horst finished with a 12:37.23; Leo Aesoph a 12:50.36; Cade Aasheim a 12:52.97; Jackson Schmidt a 13:16.77; Duncan Johnson a 13:18.40; Isaiah Sayler a 13:32.15; and Braylon Plucker a 13:36.77.


The LHS cross country team will be in action this Friday, Sept. 2 when they travel to Yankton Trails Park to compete in the Augustana Twilight Meet. Junior Varsity opens the meet at 6 p.m. followed by Varsity and College athletes.
