State Bound: Junior Legion advances to 2024 State Tournament

The Lennox Post 174 Junior Legion team competed in Regions last week and with a 9-4 win over the Sioux Falls Chargers and a 6-2 win over Beresford, the Lennox team punched their ticket to the State B Junior Legion Tournament to be held in Groton, Aug. 9-11. 

In the game against the Chargers, Lennox took an early 3-1 lead after two innings of play; however, Sioux Falls battled back to take the lead, 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Lennox answered back and reclaimed the lead with two runs in the fourth and four more in the bottom of the fifth to seal the 9-4 victory. 

Talen Eich led the offense, collecting three hits in three at bats. He singled in the second inning, singled in the fourth, and singled in the fifth. Anacker also had a strong game at the plate, going three of four. 

In the bottom of the second, Jack Aasheim doubled for Lennox while Jackson Anacker singled and Eich singled, to each bring in a run. 

In the bottom of the fourth, Anacker doubled and Eich singled to each score a run.

On the mound for Lennox was Anacker who started. He allowed six hits and four runs over five and two-third innings. He struck out eight and walked five. Mason Reischl threw one and one-third innings of zero-run ball in relief. He allowed one hit and recorded two strike outs and zero walks. 

Also recording a hit in the win were Jaxson Bittner, Cole Spieler, Gabe Veruink, Nate Haar, and Aasheim. 

In the game against Beresford, Lennox trailed early but jumped into the lead in the top of the third with Reischl hitting a double to score Anacker and Spieler. Haar drew a walk later in the inning to score Reischl. 

Lennox scored two more runs in the top of the fourth and one more in the top of the sixth to get the 6-2 victory. 

Spieler began on the mound for Lennox. He gave up six hits and two runs over five and one-third innings. He recorded seven strike-outs and allowed two walks. Haar threw one and two-thirds innings for no-run ball in relief. He allowed two hits and recorded two strike-outs and one walk. 

Offensively, Bittner and Sam Bambas each had two hits in the game. Anacker, Eich, Spieler, and Reischl each provided one hit. Reischl had two RBIs, while Eich, Spieler, and Haar each recorded one. Bittner stole two bases in the game for Lennox. 

State Tournament action begins Friday, Aug. 9 in Groton.
