Just a mile north of Lennox on Highway 17 sits a thriving, family-run business that has grown from a humble home-based operation into one of the Midwest’s most trusted names in small engine repair and equipment sales.

D&D Small Engine Repair and Sales, located at 27688 466th Ave, opened its doors in 2009 when owner Randy Dump saw a need for quality repair and maintenance services in the area. With help from his children and grandchildren, what started as a simple garage operation quickly expanded into a full-service shop offering sales, service, and support for top-name brands such as Ariens and Gravely, Hustler, Cub Cadet, Echo, and DeWalt.

“We are a family business,” said Brandie Nordman, Randy’s daughter and one of the key members of the D&D team which includes her dad, her brother and more family members. They also have a team of non-family members, essential to the business.

The business employs 12 team members, including four full-time mechanics, a shop manager, a dedicated equipment assembler, a full-time delivery driver, and four staff members who handle sales and office duties. A part-time team member who also helps with equipment cleaning and shop upkeep.

What sets D&D apart? According to Nordman, it’s a combination of exceptional customer service and free pick-up and delivery—a perk that’s rare in the industry.

“We offer free pick-up and delivery of new equipment and also equipment that is needing repairs or servicing,” she said.

Alongside top-tier service, D&D boasts a large inventory of in-stock parts, allowing for faster turnaround on repairs and servicing. Their showroom is packed with high-quality, ready-to-use products for both lawn and snow care—something that has attracted new customers from across the region.

Still, growing the business hasn’t come without its challenges.

“Getting customers to come to Lennox ” Nordman admitted can sometimes be a challenge but with creative marketing and word-of-mouth from satisfied customers, they’re been able to overcome that.

“Being the number 1 Hustler dealer in the mid west, we bring a lot of traffic to the Lennox area,” said Nordmann. “We are bringing people to Lennox who have never been here before which could help the Lennox community.”

With a reputation built on reliability, quality, and community values, D&D Small Engine Repair is more than just a place to buy a lawn mower—it’s a business rooted in family and fueled by a commitment to service.

“If you’ve never been to our shop,” said Nordman, “we encourage you to stop out and see what we have to offer for your lawn and snow needs.”
