Senior Legion sweeps Garretson in home doubleheader

The Lennox Post 174 Senior Legion baseball team earned a pair of victories Saturday, June 27, sweeping Garretson Post 23 with an 8-6 win in the opener and earning a 4-3 victory in the second match-up. Between games, the Lennox American Legion recognized its 2026 Legion Baseball Hall of Fame inductees during a special ceremony. In the opening game, the Lennox Senior Legion rallied from an early deficit in the first game after Garretson plated four runs in the opening inning.

Post 174 answered with two runs in the bottom of the first before completing the comeback in the third inning. Talen Eich opened the frame with a single, Jackson Anacker followed with a bunt single and Cole Spieler delivered an RBI double. Jackson Anacker later stole home before Nate Haar tied the game with an RBI single.

Lennox took its first lead in the fourth inning. Eich singled and eventually scored on Anacker’s RBI double. Spieler followed with another RBI double, and later crossed the plate on a passed ball to give Post 174 an 8-5 advantage.

Garretson added a run in the sixth, but Cole Spieler kept the visitors off the scoreboard the rest of the way to secure the 8-6 victory.

Spieler went two of three with two doubles and three RBIs. Eich collected three hits and scored three runs, while Anacker added three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Haar finished with a hit and an RBI.

On the mound, Spieler struck out six batters while pitching the complete game.

The second game featured a pitching duel as Lennox built an early four-run lead before holding off a late Garretson rally.

Post 174 scored its first run in the opening inning when an error allowed Jackson Anacker to cross the plate.

Lennox added three more runs in the second. Gabe Veurink singled home Nate Haar before Jackson Anacker delivered a two-run double to score Veurink and Talen Eich for a 4-0 advantage.

Starting pitcher Talen Eich dominated through six innings, allowing Garretson little offense while striking out 10 batters. Garretson mounted its only threat in the seventh inning, scoring three runs to cut the lead to 4-3.

With two outs and the tying and go-ahead runs on base, Mason Reischl came on in relief and recorded the final strikeout to earn the save and preserve the victory.

Jackson Anacker paced the offense with a double and two RBIs, while Veurink drove in one run. Cole Spieler, Nate Haar and Justin Butler each added hits for Post 174.

Eich earned the win, striking out 10 batters over 6-2/3 innings before Reischl recorded the final out to complete the sweep.
