Senior Legion Post 174 wins Clark Tournament

The Lennox Senior Legion Post 174 baseball team captured the Clark Tournament championship over the weekend, posting a perfect 3-0 record with victories over Lisbon, N.D., Post 7, Colton Post 206 and Clark/Willow Lake.
Lennox opened tournament play Thursday, July 9, with a 3-1 victory over Lisbon, N.D., Post 7 using a dominant pitching performance from Mason Reischl to earn a 3-1.Â
Post 7 took an early 1-0 lead in the opening inning, but Lennox answered in the second when Griffen Boomgarden doubled to drive in Charley Bittner and tie the game.
Lennox moved ahead for good in the third inning. Jaxson Bittner led off with a double before Jackson Anacker reached on a bunt single. Cole Spieler later grounded out to score Bittner and give Post 174 a 2-1 advantage.
The insurance run came in the sixth inning when Boomgarden singled to center, scoring Charley Bittner for the final 3-1 margin.
Reischl was outstanding on the mound, striking out ten batters while allowing just one unearned run just over six innings. Nate Haar also saw action, striking out one. Boomgarden finished with two hits, including a double and two RBIs, while Jaxson Bittner added a double and two hits. Anacker, Spieler, and Gabe Veurink also collected hits.Â
On Friday, Lennox continued its championship run with an 8-5 victory over Colton Post 206. Lennox wasted little time taking control, scoring four runs in the first inning. Jaxson Bittner opened the game with a solo home run before Cole Spieler delivered a two-run triple and Mason Reischl added a sacrifice fly to build a 4-0 lead.
Colton battled back to pull within one run, but Post 174 answered throughout the middle innings. Griffen Boomgarden drove in a run with a fourth-inning single before Talen Eich doubled home Jackson Anacker and later scored on Cole Spieler’s RBI single in the fifth. Eich added another RBI double in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Spieler earned the victory on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5-2/3 innings before Eich recorded the final out in relief. At the plate, Eich finished with two doubles and two RBIs, while Spieler collected a triple, a single and three RBIs. Boomgarden added an RBI, and Jaxson Bittner homered to lead off the game.
Post 174 wrapped up the tournament Saturday with a decisive 13-1 win over Clark/Willow Lake to secure the tournament title.
After the CWL tied the game at 1-1 in the first inning, Lennox took control with two runs in the second, two more in the third and an explosive eight-run fourth inning.
The fourth inning featured RBIs from Cole Spieler, Nate Haar, Griffen Boomgarden, Jackson Anacker and Logan Von Haden as Post 174 broke the game open.
Talen Eich earned the win on the mound, allowing one run while striking out five over four innings.Â
Offensively, Spieler finished with a double, triple and one RBI. Anacker had a double, two singles and two RBIs, while Boomgarden recorded a triple, a single and one RBI. Gabe Veurink added two hits and two RBIs, Haar drove in three runs, and Jaxson Bittner contributed two hits while scoring multiple runs as Lennox rolled to the 13-1 victory.
The Senior Legion will begin Region 3B play Tuesday, July 21 in Dakota Valley. Lennox will face off against Beresford Area Post 72 at 5 p.m. The winner will advance to play the winner of the Dakota Valley Post 19/Vermillion Post 1 match-up on July 22 at 2 p.m. The winner of that game will play on July 23rd at 5 p.m. Complete bracket above. The State B Tournament will be played July 31 through August 4 in Madison.
