School board approves handbooks, policies

The Lennox School Board met Aug. 10 and approved handbooks and policy updates. The board approved student handbooks, as well as handbooks for Totally Kids and Sunshine Preschool. Superintendent Adam Shaw noted that the student handbook’s behavior matrix needs to be updated so that it can more accurately address behavior issues that are more age appropriate for the different grades. He said they would address the behavior matrix at the next meeting after visiting with the principals.
The board approved updates to the following policies: Bidding for Construction Remodeling Repair or Related Projects Financed with Federal Funds, Fiscal Management for Purchasing and Procurement Using Federal Funds, Copying Fees for School District Records, Capitalization & Inventories, Possession of Firearms by District Patrons, Memorials, Guest Speakers & School Visitors, Title IX, Investment of School District Funds, ACH Originator Policy, Drug Policy Regarding Drivers,
Staff Internet & Computer Use, Staff & District Social Media Use, Reporting Child Abuse or Neglect, School Vehicle Use and Use of AI Tools by Staff.
They set the adult breakfast price at $3.30 and lunch price at $5.35 for the 2026-27 school year.
The board set the date for the next school board election for June 8, 2027.
They reviewed the classified employee resignations of Shannon Keatley as Lennox Elementary administrative assistant, Danielle Hall as foodservice cook and Jessica Carlson as Lennox High School alternative setting educational assistant. Employee transfers included Angela Smit from Lennox Junior High/High School to Lennox Elementary as administrative assistant and Kristi Abbas from Worthing Elementary to Lennox Junior High/High School administrative assistant. They also heard the new classified staff work agreements for Jennifer Hanisch as educational assistant, Samantha Klenner as Worthing Elementary administrative assistant and Myra Whitehead as Lennox High School education assistant.
Junior High/High School principal Chad Allison said the parking lot project was completed early last week. The flooring in the high school office has been completed. They are looking forward to new schedules for students in the building with junior high students have 10 periods and high school students having eight periods with no more block scheduling.
The board approved transferring ACT prep class fund balance to the general fund in the amount of $560.75.\
They surplussed a PJ trailer and H&H trailer that will both be traded. They also surplussed IT equipment that is no longer functional, including 152 laptops, 32 17-inch monitors, six TVs, two servers, one LCD projector and two Dell SAN storage arrays.
The board went into executive session at 6:30 p.m.
