Schmidt, McVey lead Orioles at State Meet held in Huron

The Lennox High School cross country team concluded their 2022 season this past Saturday, Oct. 22 competing in the State Cross Country Meet held in Huron. The State Meet featured top athletes from across the state in all three classes.


The Orioles qualified their entire girls team and four boy members that competed in the Class A races.


For the varsity girls, Kelsey Schmidt led the way taking 34th in the field of 119 runners. Schmidt clocked a time of 20:36.25 at State. Emily Plucker took 40th among the State’s best, crossing the finish line in a time of 20:52.93. Josephine Plucker took 71st with a time of 21:36.83, Jersie Hostetler 72nd with a time of 21:37.24, Karlie Bosma 90th with a time of 22:06.37, and Regan Van Meeteren 105th with a time of 23:04.55.


Winning the State A individual title was Isabelle Bloker of Sioux Valley. She clocked a time of 18:32.67.


For the varsity boys, Lennox was led by Cloy McVey who captured 35th place in the field of 125 runners. McVey clocked a time of 17:55.30 among the top runners. Noah Sayler wasn’t far behind, clocking a time of 18:01.92 to take 39th. Maverick Horst followed in 41st place with a time of 18:04.46. Lucas Hartman finished in 78th with a time of 18:55.56.


Winning the State A individual title was Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche who finished with a time of 15:30.28.


The girls’ Class A team title was won by Sioux Falls Christian and the boys’ Class A team title was won by Belle Fourche.
