Orioles open season 7-0

The Lennox High School girls’ basketball team remain undefeated after grabbing a 49-19 Monday night win over West Lyon to improve to 7-0 on the season. Prior to their win over West Lyon, the Orioles dominated Mount Vernon Plankinton, 56-22 on Jan. 2. Lennox led early, 21-9 after the opening quarter, and outscored the Titans 15-0 in the second to take a commanding lead at the half.
“Defensively we played disciplined and really made it hard for MVP to get comfortable all game,” said LHS head coach Adam Quail. “Offensively we were really very balanced in scoring which really makes it hard on the defense as anyone on our team can make plays. It was fun to see the girls on the court again after the long break!”
Leading the Orioles against Mount Vernon Plankinton was Andie Peters and Bergan Musser who each scored 11 points. Peters was three of six from three point range and had one rebound, two assists and two steals in the game. Musser went five of seven from the field, grabbed two rebounds, had two assists and three steals.
Olivia Niederbaumer finished the night with nine points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Libby Kranz had seven points, one rebound, two assists and both Teagen Sturm and Karlie Bosma finished with six points. Sturm also grabbed two rebounds, had two assists and two steals. Bosma had two rebounds, five assists and two steals. Tori Gerdes added four points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal and Adie McVey had two points, one rebound, two assists and one steal.
Against West Lyon, , on Jan. 5 the Orioles took control early and never looked back.
Gerdes led the team with 12 points, four rebounds. Peters provided eight points in the win and Bosma finished the night with seven.
The team will be on the road on Thursday, Jan. 8 when they travel to Huron. They face off against Groton Area on Saturday, Jan. 10 in double header action with the LHS boys. The girls are set to tipoff at 3:30 p.m. The girls will be on the road on Jan. 13 when they take on Western Christian, IA.
