Orioles on a Mission: Lennox prepares for a week of Homecoming festivities

This year’s Homecoming theme is “Orioles on a Mission,” featuring a week full of school spirit, fun activities and dress-up days scheduled for Sept. 14-18.

Homecoming festivities kick off on Monday, Sept. 14, with Coronation taking place at Lennox High School at 8 p.m. One of the highlights of that event is the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and Marshall.

The Lennox High School Student Council has also announced the dress-up days for Homecoming Week, giving students plenty of opportunities to show their school spirit throughout the week. Monday, Sept. 14, will be “Welcome to the Jungle,” with students encouraged to dress as jungle guides and hunters. Tuesday, Sept. 15, will take students to the Wild West for “Wanted in the West,” featuring cowboy and cowgirl attire. Wednesday, Sept. 16, will be a day of pirates and mermaids, while Thursday, Sept. 17, will feature class shirts or animal print. The week will wrap up Friday, Sept. 18, with “Return to the Nest,” when students are encouraged to wear their best Lennox Orioles spirit gear.

LHS athletes will be busy during Homecoming week. On Monday, Sept. 14 the LHS boys’ golf team will compete at The Bluffs in Vermillion at 9 a.m. 

On Tuesday, Sept. 15 the LHS girls soccer team will be in action at Groton for a 4 p.m. game, and the LHS volleyball team play host to Elk Point Jefferson with varsity slated to begin at 7 p.m. 

On Wednesday, Sept. 16 the FCCLA Color Run and Walk-a-thon will be held at 2 p.m. at the Sinning Sports Complex. 

On Thursday, Sept. 17 the LHS golfers will be in action again at Elk Point Jefferson. The LHS soccer team will host Dakota Valley for a 5:30 p.m. match-up.

On Friday, Sept. 18 the Lennox Homecoming Parade will take place at 1:30 p.m. The parade route will be same as the 4th of July parade (Main Street, headed north to 1st Avenue, west to Elm Street, and south to end). Parade entrants can start lining up on Park Drive at Noon on Friday, Sept. 18. Enter from the west side, by the softball fields.

Following Friday afternoon’s parade the Oriole football game against Canton will kick-off at 7 p.m. The Oriole Pride Marching Band will perform at halftime. The Marching Band will travel to Marshall on Saturday, Sept. 19 to compete in the Pursuit of Excellence.
