Orioles head into post-season as #4 seed

On Monday night, Oct. 23 the Lennox High School volleyball team took on Sioux Falls Christian.

“I was extremely impressed with the ladies in that after losing the first two sets, they came back and won the third,” said LHS head coach Vanessa Gabel. “Eventually we did lose to SFC but overall, it was a great showing. “

Lennox lost 1-3 (23-25, 12-25, 25-22, 19-25).

The team was led in kills by Dani Highum and Ella Grengs, with 15 and 12 kills respectively. Both worked hard to keep Sioux Falls Christian on their heels and away from a strong attack.

Lilly Meyer led the team with 25 set assists as well as three aces. Libby Kranz added two aces for the squad.

“We had three Lady O’s who serve received above a 2.0 rating, Mia [Hanish], Andie [Peters] and Dani [Highum],” said Gabel.

Addison Martz led the defense with four blocks and Peters had 11 digs.

“Andie had some amazing ups of the Chargers attacks,” added Gabel.

Highum added another nine digs and Ashlee Sweeter provided seven.

On Tuesday, Oct. 24 the Orioles wrapped up their regular season with a 1-3 loss to Canton (19-25, 27-25, 18-25, 13-25).

“ It was definitely an off night for the ladies, who did not play their best,” said Gabel. “We were just unable to get our offense and tough serving going which allowed Canton to swing away at our defense.”

Highum led in kills with 14 and in digs with 14 as well. Meyer finished the night with 21 set assists. Grengs added 15 set assists and had eight kills. Martz provided two aces, eight kills, and three blocks. Peters finished with 15 digs.

The Orioles enter the playoffs as the fourth seed with a record of 16-10. Lennox is scheduled to host Tea on Tuesday, Oct. 31. A win will push them through to the next round where they would face the winner of the Canton/Beresford game on Thursday, Nov. 2. The winner of that match-up will qualify for the SoDak 16.
