Orioles go 5-1 during busy week of volleyball action

The Lennox High School volleyball team put together a strong week on the court, going 5-1 across three competitions, including a second-place finish at the Clark/Willow Lake Tournament.

The Orioles opened the week Monday, September 7, with a 3-0 victory over Canton. Lennox controlled the match from the start, winning 25-10, 25-14 and 25-18.

Libby Kranz led the Orioles with 17 kills, while Rylee Hedin added 13. Addy Stucky recorded 12 digs and Kranz added 10. Kranz also served five aces.

Catie Sherard directed the Lennox offense with 38 assists, while Sydney Johnson recorded two blocks.

Lennox returned to action Thursday, September 10, and again swept its opponent, defeating Madison 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-14.

Kranz once again led the Orioles offensively with 16 kills, while Mallorie Bittner contributed seven kills. Stucky led the defense with 17 digs, followed by Kranz with 12.

Sherard recorded 29 assists and served four aces. Stucky and Jersie Hostetler each added two aces, while Johnson recorded two blocks.

The Orioles wrapped up the week Saturday, September 12, at the Clark/Willow Lake Tournament, where they finished 3-1 and placed second overall.

Lennox opened tournament play with a dominant 2-0 victory over Iroquois/Lake Preston, winning 25-5 and 25-15. The Orioles followed with another 2-0 sweep of Webster, 25-12 and 25-8.

In their third match, Lennox defeated West Central 2-0. The Orioles won the opening set 25-15 before edging West Central 27-25 in a close second set.

The Orioles advanced to the Gold Championship match, where they faced Clark/Willow Lake. Lennox fell 0-2, losing 25-20 and 25-22, to finish second in the tournament.

Kranz led the Orioles throughout the tournament with 36 kills across all matches combined. Hedin added 21 kills, while Hostetler recorded 15.

Stucky paced Lennox defensively with 30 digs, while Hostetler had 21 and Kranz added 13. Stucky also led the team with eight aces, while Johnson recorded seven.

Sherard continued to run the offense, finishing the tournament with 61 assists.

Lennox was scheduled to take on Elk Point Jefferson on Tuesday, Sept. 15 and will compete in the Hamlin Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 19. They will be home again on Tuesday, Sept. 22 when they host Mount Vernon/Plankinton. They travel to West Central on Thursday, Sept. 24.
