Orioles get decisive win over Dakota Valley

On Friday, Sept. 26 the Lennox High School football team traveled to Dakota Valley looking to bounce back after last week’s lost to West Central. Lennox did just that.

With a strong offensive showing that saw the Orioles put up 434 yards, Lennox defeated Dakota Valley 43-23 to improve to 3-2 on the season. 

Lennox’s offense was spearheaded by Jhaimann Huntington who passed for over 200 yards, Shayden Olean who rushed for over 100 yards and Drake Mikkelsen who had over 100 yards receiving. 

Huntington finished the night completing ten of 15 passes for 211 yards. He had two touchdown passes in the game. 

Olean rushed for 113 yards on seven carries, scoring two touchdowns on the night. 

Cayden Huls also saw action at quarterback, completing six of ten passes, including one touchdown.

Top receiver on the night was Mikkelsen who caught four passes for 121 yards, including a touchdown pass. Brennen Juffer also grabbed a touchdown pass in the game and finished the night with six grabs for 55 yards. Talen Eich had a touchdown pass as well, catching three passes for 28 yards.

Ramsey Williams had one catch for 45 yards and Tate Gerdes two grabs for 40 yards.

Williams also rushed for 25 yards in the game and scored a rushing touchdown. 

Defensively the Orioles held Dakota Valley to just 154 yards of offense. Leif Karlson pressured the Dakota Valley quarterback all night, recording four sacks in the game. Nolyn Spielman and Gavin Horner each had a sack as well. Jevyn Lefers led the Orioles in tackles with ten in the game. Karlson had five, and Max Weeldreyer and Cole Spieler also had four tackles. Williams had three solo tackles and five assisted tackles. 

The Orioles will host Canton this Friday, Oct. 3 in a 7 p.m. match-up. Canton sits at 2-3 on the season, recording wins over Rapid City Christian (27-6) and Vermillion (19-14). Their three losses came at the hands of Dakota Valley (35-14), Sioux Falls Christian (50-0) and West Central (41-19).
