Orioles face off against Dakota Valley in final regular season game

This past week the Lennox High School boys’ basketball team earned a 66-46 win over Vermillion and a 78-42 victory over Beresford before falling to  Dell Rapids this past Friday, Feb. 16, 74-63. 

The Orioles are set to take on a 15-2 Dakota Valley team this Friday, Feb. 23 in their final regular season game. 

“We are heading into our last week of the regular season. As a team we’ve had moments that showcase how good we can be,” said LHS head coach Chris Buckmiller. “We’ve also had moments where we weren’t our best. During this final stretch, we are focusing on toughness and belief that we can beat anyone. We control our own destiny.”

Against Vermillion, Talan Diercks had a fantastic game, scoring 23 points, grabbing five rebounds, one assist and three steals. Porter Ihnen finished with 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds, had one assist and one steal. 

Braxton Musser added eight points and grabbed three rebounds. Both Tate Gerdes and Teegan Musser had four points each. Gerdes also pulled down nine rebounds. Talen Eich finished with three points and Layton Smith two. 

In the win over Beresford, Ihnen led the team with 24 points. He also grabbed nine rebounds, had two assists and one steal. Tate Gerdes finished with 14 points, five rebounds, a team high seven assists, and one steal. Boston Katzer and B. Musser each finished with nine points, Diercks had seven points, Drake Mikkelsen five points, T. Musser five points, Pierce Temme three points, and Cloy McVey two points. 

Diercks led the team in steals with four. 

In the loss to Dell Rapids, Ihnen finished with 28 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds and five assists. Tate Gerdes and Diercks each finished with eight points. Katzer had seven points, B. Musser four, Trey Gerdes three, Mikkelsen and Eich two each and T. Musser one. 

Katzer and Tate Gerdes led the team in steals with two each in the game. 

Playoff action is set to begin on Feb. 27, with the winners advancing to the second round on Mar. 1. The winner of the Mar. 1 games will advance to the SoDak 16.
