Orioles earn three wins, takes second at Hamlin Tournament
The Lennox High School volleyball team picked up a straight-set victory over Elk Point-Jefferson on Tuesday, Sept. 15, before earning a second-place finish at the Hamlin Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Lennox opened the week with a 3-0 win over Elk Point-Jefferson, taking the sets 25-14, 25-9 and 25-16.
Libby Kranz led the Orioles with 11 kills, while Rylee Hedin added six. Catie Sherard recorded 25 assists, and Addy Stucky led the defensive effort with 17 digs while also posting a 2.3 serve-receive rating. Peyten Wright served four aces, Kranz added three, and Mallorie Bittner recorded three blocks.
The Orioles then traveled to the Hamlin Tournament on Saturday, where they advanced to the championship match after defeating Castlewood and Hamlin.
Lennox opened tournament play with a 2-0 victory over Castlewood, winning 25-15 and 25-19.
Bittner and Jersie Hostetler each recorded six kills in the match. Stucky contributed three aces and 12 digs, while Kranz added 10 digs. Sherard finished with 14 assists and Alivia Martz added seven assists. Wright led the serve-receive effort with a 2.5 rating.
The Orioles followed with a 2-1 victory over Hamlin, winning 25-17, 23-25, and 25-17.
Kranz led Lennox with nine kills, followed by Bittner with seven. Stucky again paced the defense with 20 digs and posted a 2.2 serve-receive rating. Martz added 13 digs. Kranz recorded four aces, while Sherard had 14 assists and Martz contributed 11.
Lennox faced Dell Rapids in the tournament championship and fell 0-2.
Bittner, Kranz and Hedin each recorded two kills in the championship match. Stucky and Avery Merrigan each had one ace, while Sherard finished with five assists. Stucky recorded eight digs, and Sherard added six.
The Orioles were scheduled to host Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and will travel to West Central on Thursday, Sept. 24. Lennox will then travel to Tea on Monday, Sept. 28, to take on the Titans.
