Orioles dominate Tri-Valley on the field

The Lennox High School football team traveled to Tri-Valley on Friday, Oct. 17 and scored three times in the second quarter to secure an impressive 41-0 victory over the Mustangs.

In the opening quarter, Lennox’s Tate Gerdes took it 69 yards for the score, giving Lennox the early 7-0 advantage. Still in the first, Gerdes once again found the end zone rushing eight yards in for the score. 

With a 14-0 lead, the Orioles piled on in the second as Ramsey Williams caught a ten yard pass from Jhaimann Huntington  to go up 21-0. Drake Mikkelsen caught two passes from Cayden Huls, one a two yard pass and the other a seven to give the Orioles a 34-0 advantage.

In the third, Williams scored his second touchdown of the night, running it in from five yards, giving Lennox the 41-0 victory.

Lennox finished with 445 yards of total offense, 257 on the ground and 188 in the air. Tri-Valley was held to just 69 yards of offense, all coming from the air. 

Huntington went nine of 14 on the night for 149 yards. Huls completed 12 of 15 of his pass attempts for 108 yards. 

Gerdes and Williams controlled the ground game with Gerdes rushing for 89 yards on four carries. Williams rushed for 81 yards on ten carries. 

Talen Eich caught three passes on the night for 75 yards. Mikkelsen grabbed six for 63 yards and Gerdes secured five for 60 yards. Brennen Juffer had two on the night for 22 yards and Williams and Cole Spieler each had one. 

Defensively, Williams, Leif Karlson, and Gavin Horner each recorded a sack in the game. Williams led in tackles with three. Karlson and Spieler each had two. 

The Orioles will travel to Dell Rapids this Thursday, Oct. 23 for a 7 p.m. game against the 6-2 Quarriers. Dell Rapids has recorded wins over Dakota Valley (28-7), Rapid City Christian (43-8), Milbank (36-7), Tri-Valley (22-14), West Central (21-20), and Canton (28-27). Their two losses were to Madison (20-21), and Sioux Falls Christian (15-41). Playoffs are set to begin on Thursday, Oct. 30.
