On Friday, Oct. 10 the Lennox High School football team hosted Madison and earned a commanding 44–19 win.  The Orioles used a balanced offensive attack and a defense that came up big when it mattered most to get the win.

Quarterback Jhaimann Huntington got the scoring going for the Orioles, scoring early on a 5-yard keeper in the first quarter, the point after by Cloy McVey gave Lennox the 7-0 lead. Madison answered late in the opening period with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Henry Veenhof to Shane Veenhof, tying the game at 7–7.

From there, Lennox took control. Huntington connected with Talen Eich on a 5-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter, and moments later, Ramsey Williams broke loose for a 58-yard score to extend the Orioles’ lead to 21–7.

Madison managed to close the gap with another Veenhof-to-Veenhof touchdown before halftime, but a missed PAT left the Bulldogs trailing 21–13.

The Orioles blew the game open in the third quarter. Williams powered in for another touchdown from 20 yards out, and the Lennox defense immediately followed with a statement play — Tate Gerdes intercepted a Madison pass and returned it 49 yards to the end zone. A successful two-point conversion by Jacob Capon put Lennox ahead 37–13. Madison found the end zone once more late in the third on a short keeper by Veenhof, but time was not on their side.

Lennox sealed the game in the fourth when Huntington hit Drake Mikkelsen for a 34-yard touchdown strike, capping off a 77-yard drive.

The Orioles dominated statistically, amassing 395 yards of total offense to Madison’s 223. Williams was a force on the ground, rushing for 156 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns. Huntington added 30 yards rushing and went 11-of-16 passing for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Mikkelsen was Huntington’s favorite target, hauling in six catches for 126 yards and a touchdown. Gerdes had two grabs in the game for 28 yards, Williams one for 14, Brennen Juffer three for 13 and Eich two for eight.

Defensively, Nolyn Spielman led Lennox with nine solo tackles, while Gerdes and Mavrick Stockwell each recorded interceptions. Lennox’s defense had four sacks in the game with Leif Karlson, Ben Heibult, Spielman and Jevyn Lefers all getting to the Madison quarterback.

With the win, Lennox improves to 5-2 on the season. They will take to the road this Friday, Oct. 17 when they take on Tri-Valley who also sits at 5-2 on the season. Tri-Valley has recorded wins over Belle Fourche (30-14), Dakota Valley (20-7), and Vermillion (36-21). They lost to Dell Rapids (22-14) and Madison (33-7). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Colton.
