Orioles compete at Sioux Center Invite

The Lennox High School cross country team traveled to Sioux Center, Iowa, on Thursday, Sept. 25, to compete in the Sioux Center Invite. The Oriole varsity boys turned in a strong team showing, led by senior Cloy McVey, who cracked the top 10 with a time of 16:59.87 for eighth place overall. Sophomore Isaak Booker was close behind, finishing 13th in 17:16.57. Freshman Landon Strasser had an impressive run, clocking 17:37.10 for 23rd place, while sophomore Leo Aesoph finished 27th at 17:46.85. Rounding out the scoring runners were sophomores Jackson Schmidt (49th, 18:26.59) and Charley Bittner (92nd, 20:58.55), along with junior Cade Aasheim (95th, 21:01.24).
The Lennox varsity girls were paced by freshman Kamille Schmidt, who earned 17th place in 20:49.27. Eighth-grader Sophia Johnson turned in a strong effort to finish 19th at 21:08.37. Freshman Lucy Carlson followed with a 35th-place finish in 22:39.42, while classmate Allison Loewe came in 42nd at 23:00.19. Eighth-grader Kensi Holland rounded out the varsity squad, taking 73rd in 24:25.66.
In the JV boys’ race, freshman Lance Aasheim led the Orioles with a 52nd-place finish in 20:59.17. Fellow freshman Quinten Lunt crossed in 115th at 23:19.80, followed by junior Cade DeWolf in 136th at 24:13.53. Senior Karson Iken completed the race in 165th with a time of 26:14.35.
The JV girls were represented by two runners. Sophomore Kaydence Gerry finished 54th in 28:29.42, and freshman Harper Walsh came in 58th at 28:53.85.
In the two-mile junior high race, seventh-grader Gage Ebbeson led Lennox, clocking 14:24.36 for 32nd place. Teammates Sawyer Johnson (84th, 17:01.12) and Nolan Vietor (112th, 19:35.97) also competed for the Orioles.
The junior high girls had a trio of eighth-graders in the two-mile run. Adalynn Nielson led the group, finishing 46th in 17:33.53. She was followed closely by Lily Kuiken in 62nd at 18:37.50 and Sophie Wood in 64th at 18:50.32.
Lennox will host the Lennox Invite on Thursday, Oct. 2. Varsity girls will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the varsity boys, JV girls, JV boys and combined middle school. The Conference Meet will be held in Canton on Thursday, Oct. 9.
