Oriole volleyball team wraps up busy week of action

The Lennox High School volleyball team had a busy week, facing several tough opponents both in regular season play and in the DAK XII conference tournament.

On Monday, Oct. 15, Lennox took on Garretson and came away with a 3-0 sweep, winning the sets 25-24, 25-11, and 25-22. Leading the way for the Orioles was Lilly Meyer with five aces, while Libby Kranz added three. Kranz also had a strong performance at the net, recording 10 kills, followed closely by Ella Grengs with eight. Defensively, Mallorie Bittner and Kranz each contributed one solo block. The offense was powered by Hannah Adney with 19 assists and Grengs with 12, while Meyer and Kranz led the team in digs with three each.

The following day, Oct. 15 Lennox faced a tougher opponent in Dakota Valley and fell 3-0, with set scores of 20-25, 14-25, and 16-25. Despite the loss, Meyer and Sydney Johnson both delivered from the service line with three and two aces, respectively. Grengs led the team in kills with eight, while Kranz added five. Adney provided 10 assists, and Grengs contributed seven more. On defense, Meyer had a standout performance with nine digs, and Andie Peters chipped in with seven.

In the DAK XII conference tournament, Lennox finished seventh overall. Their first-round match-up was a rematch against Dakota Valley, where they lost in straight sets, 17-25 and 16-25. Peters served two aces, while Kranz and Grengs each tallied five kills. Bittner made her presence felt with three solo blocks. Grengs and Adney combined for 15 assists, and Meyer collected seven digs.

The Orioles bounced back in the second round with a decisive 25-13, 25-15 victory over Vermillion. In the third round, Lennox faced a tightly contested match against Madison but ultimately lost 1-2, with set scores of 25-19, 21-25, and 21-25.

In their final round of the tournament, Lennox secured a 2-0 win over Tri-Valley, winning 25-17 and 25-21. Catie Sherard served three aces, while Meyer and Johnson each added two. Rylee Hedin, Ryan Hanssen, and Kranz each posted four kills. At the net, Grengs led with four block assists, while Addison Martz added three. Grengs continued to contribute all around, tallying eight assists and four digs, with Sherard providing four assists as well.

The Orioles will take on Baltic in their next match on Friday, October 25, with the game set to begin at 7:15 p.m.
