McVeys lead Orioles at Beresford Invite

The Lennox High School cross country team had a strong showing at the Beresford Invite on Thursday, Aug. 28, with both the varsity boys’ and girls’ teams finding success.
In the boys’ varsity 5,000-meter race, senior Cloy McVey led the Orioles, placing eighth with a time of 17:31.64. He was closely followed by sophomore Isaak Booker, who crossed the finish line in 12th at 17:49.26, and freshman Landon Strasser, who placed 13th in 17:52.16. Sophomore Leo Aesoph was right behind in 16th, clocking 18:03.78. Rounding out the varsity squad were sophomore Jackson Schmidt (44th, 19:33.29) and freshman Charley Bittner (66th, 21:26.50).
On the girls’ side, freshman Adie McVey placed sixth overall in the varsity 5,000-meter run, finishing in 19:33.35. Eighth grader Sophia Johnson (27th, 21:57.87), freshman Kamille Schmidt (29th, 22:06.39), and freshman Lucy Carlson (32nd, 22:18.54) packed closely together to boost the team score. Freshman Allison Loewe added a 56th-place finish in 26:09.01.
The Lennox JV runners also made their mark. In the boys’ 4,000-meter race, junior Cade Aasheim placed 21st in 16:27.86, while freshman Lance Aasheim earned a personal record of 16:44.18 to take 26th. Junior Isaiah Sayler (40th, 17:24.18), junior Duncan Johnson (61st, 18:24.04), freshman Quinten Lunt (78th, 18:49.33), and senior Karson Iken (100th, 20:26.39) rounded out the JV squad.
For the JV girls, eighth grader Kensi Holland led Lennox with a 21st-place finish in 19:12.89. Sophomore Kaydence Gerry was 34th in 20:17.79, and freshman Harper Walsh placed 68th in 22:31.26.
The junior high division also featured several Lennox runners. Seventh graders Gage Ebbeson (61st, 13:10.35) and Sawyer Johnson (81st, 14:14.09) competed in the boys’ 3,000-meter race. In the girls’ 3,000 meters, eighth graders Sophie Wood (51st, 14:49.14), Adalynn Nielson (54th, 14:53.22), and Lily Kuiken (72nd, 15:41.97) represented the Orioles.
Lennox competes in the Augie Twilight this Friday at 6 p.m.
