With prom season right around the corner, two local women are making sure every high school girl has the chance to shine — without the financial stress.
When Kalie Hanisch realized she had a number of boutique dresses sitting in storage, she knew she wanted to put them to good use.
“I run a small boutique and had a lot of dresses I have been just storing, so I was wanting to donate them,” Hanisch said. “There wasn’t anyone local doing the prom closet this year, so myself and Traci Sees decided to put something together to help make their prom experience the best and most affordable.”
Hanisch and Sees are organizing a Prom Closet event for area high school girls. The Prom Closet will be held March 13 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and March 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kidz Cottage, 110 S. Main Street, Lennox.
All high school girls are invited to attend. Dresses, shoes and jewelry will be available at no charge, although free-will donations will be accepted.
Items currently being collected include new or gently used, clean prom dresses, evening gowns and party dresses, as well as dress shoes and jewelry. All donations must be dropped off by Wednesday, March 11.
Donations can be delivered to Kidz Cottage Learning Center, 1100 S. Main St., Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Organizers are also willing to make other arrangements if necessary.
“We are collecting dresses, shoes and jewelry till March 11th,” Hanisch said. “We can make other arrangements if needed.”
For more information or to coordinate a donation drop-off, contact kidzcottage@outlook.com or call or text 605-951-8232.
Through community generosity, Hanisch and Sees hope to ensure every young woman has the opportunity to feel confident and celebrated on prom night.
