Lincoln County 4-H rodeo prepares for state

LENNOX, S.D. – Eighteen Lincoln County 4-H’ers competed in regional 4-H rodeos throughout the state this summer.

Members participating in rodeo this year include Sylar Carlson, Megan DeLay, John Halverson, Lilly Henry, Hawk Hill, Sage Hill, Taden Jacobs, Tori Kanz, Reese Larson, Carlee Laubach, Ava Nelson, Taya Skiles, Chloe Smit, Jade Twedt, Taten Twedt, Rayna Van Bochove, Andrew VanKekerix and Lenae Wiersma.


Thirteen qualified in numerous events for the state rodeo, which is Aug. 19-21 in Fort Pierre. To qualify for the state rodeo, contestants need to place in the top four in their event at a regional rodeo.


Megan DeLay qualified in senior team roping, senior girls breakaway and senior ribbon roping. Andrew VanKekerix qualified in senior team roping. Taten Twedt qualified in senior team roping and senior boys tie down roping. Sylar Carlson qualified in senior team roping and senior boys saddle bronc. John Halverson qualified in senior team roping and senior boys tie down roping. Reese Larson qualified in senior girls barrels and senior girls poles. Lenae Wiermsa qualified in senior girls barrels.


Taya Skiles qualified in senior girls barrels, senior girls breakaway and senior girls poles. Rayna Van Bochove qualified in senior girls breakaway and senior girls goat tying. Tori Kanz qualified in senior girls goat tying. Ava Nelson qualified in senior girls poles. Sage Hill qualified in junior girls breakaway. Jade Twedt qualified in junior girls barrels.


On day one of the Sioux Empire 4-H Rodeo in Sioux Falls, John Halverson was ninth in senior boys tie down with a time of 23.220 seconds. Megan DeLay was first in senior girls breakaway with a time of 2.950 seconds, seventh in senior girls barrels with a time of 15.307 seconds. Rayna Van Bochove was third in senior girls breakaway with a time of 6.120 seconds and third in senior girls goats with a time of 10.120 seconds.


On day two of the Sioux Empire 4-H Rodeo, Jade Twedt was fourth in junior girls barrels with a time of 16.552 seconds and 10th in junior girls flag race with a time of 13.116 seconds. John Halverson was eighth in senior boys tie down with a time of 17.260 seconds. Taya Skiles was first in senior girls breakaway with a time of 4.350 seconds, fourth in senior girls barrels with a time of 14.852 seconds and third in senior girls poles with a time of 22.568 seconds. Megan DeLay was third in senior girls breakaway with a time of 4.510 seconds and fourth in senior team roping with a time of 16.334 seconds. Rayna Van Bochove was third in senior girls goats with a time of 9.860 seconds. Ava Nelson was sixth in senior girls poles with a time of 24.500 seconds, and Reese Larson was eighth with a time of 25.217 seconds.


On day two of the Burke 4-H Rodeo in Burke, Sylar Carlson won the senior saddle bronc with a score of 58. He was second in senior team roping with a time of 15.04 seconds.


On day one of the Sioux Area 4-H Rodeo in Sioux Falls, John Halverson was fourth in senior boys tie down with a time of 13.730 seconds. Ava Nelson was eighth in senior girls barrels with a time of 15.293 seconds, fifth in senior girls goats with a time of 12.450 seconds and second in senior girls poles with a time of 22.502 seconds. Megan DeLay was ninth in senior girls barrels with a time of 15.396 seconds and first in senior girls breakaway with a time of 3.570 seconds. Rayna Van Bochove was ninth in senior girls goats with a time of 13.730 seconds. Reese Larson was seventh in senior girls poles with a time of 23.534 seconds.

On day two of the Sioux Area 4-H Rodeo, Jade Twedt was seventh in junior girls barrels with a time of 15.693 seconds. Sage Hill was fourth in junior girls breakaway with a time of 6.080 seconds and 10th in junior girls flag race with a time of 9.637 seconds. John Halverson was third in senior boys tie down with a time of 12.770 seconds and fifth in senior team roping with a time of 18.8 seconds. Lenae Wiersma was second in senior girls barrels with a time of 14.553 seconds. Tori Kanz was first in senior girls goats with a time of 11.170 seconds. Reese Larson was sixth in senior girls poles with a time of 23.890 seconds.


Megan DeLay was second in senior ribbon roping with a time of 14.020 seconds and third in senior team roping with a time of 13.790 seconds.


On day two of the Brule County 4-H Rodeo in Chamberlain, Sylar Carlson was first in senior boys saddle bronc with a score of 62. Reese Larson was eighth in senior girls poles with a time of 23.454 seconds.


On day one of the Eastern Dakota Regional 4-H Rodeo in Watertown, Megan DeLay was seventh in senior girls breakaway with a time of 13.590 seconds. Rayna Van Bochove was fourth in senior girls goats with a time of 7.710 seconds.


On day two of the Eastern Dakota Regional 4-H Rodeo, John Halverson was sixth in senior boys tie down with a time of 18.270 seconds and fourth in senior team roping with a time of 15.660 seconds. Megan DeLay was third in senior girls breakaway with a time of 2.960 seconds. Tori Kanz was sixth in senior girls goats with a time of 8.780 seconds.


On day one of Tripp County 4-H Rodeo in Winner, Sylar Carlson was fourth in senior boys saddle bronc with a score of 42. Megan DeLay was first in ribbon roping with a time of 9.510 seconds.


On day one of Heartland 4-H Rodeo in Huron, Megan DeLay was first in senior girls breakaway with a time of 2.5 seconds. Rayna Van Bochove was fourth in senior girls goats with a time of 8.780 seconds. Tori Kanz was seventh in senior girls goats with a time of 9.840 seconds. Reese Larson was fourth in senior girls poles with a time of 22.762 seconds.


On day two of the Heartland 4-H Rodeo, Ava Nelson was sixth in senior girls barrels with a time of 17.989 seconds. Rayna Van Bochove was fourth in senior girls goats with a time of 7.9 seconds. Megan DeLay was fourth in senior team roping with a time of 34.190 seconds.


On day two of the Blunt 4-H Rodeo in Blunt, Sylar Carlson was second in senior boys saddle bronc with a score of 60 and eighth in senior team roping with a time of 30.190 seconds.


On day one of the Clark County 4-H Rodeo in Clark, Taten Twedt was fourth in senior boys tie down with a time of 25.830 seconds. Reese Larson was third in senior girls barrels with a time of 16.468 seconds. Megan DeLay was third in senior ribbon roping with a time of 25.280 seconds and ninth in senior team roping with a time of 38.580 seconds.


On day two of the Clark County 4-H Rodeo, Taten Twedt was eighth in senior boys tie down with a time of 36.490 seconds. Megan DeLay was third in senior girls breakaway with a time of 5.220 seconds. Reese Larson was seventh in senior girls poles with a time of 22.813 seconds. Andrew VanKekerix and Taten Twedt were third in senior team roping with a time of 21.830 seconds.


At the Glacial Lakes 4-H Rodeo in Sisseton, Sage Hill was sixth in junior girls flag race with a time of 10.031 seconds and seventh in junior girls goats with a time of 14.475 seconds. Megan DeLay was third in senior girls breakaway with a time of 3.555 seconds.
