Lincoln County 4-H Rodeo members prepare for State


LENNOX, S.D. – Fifteen Lincoln County 4-H’ers competed in regional 4-H rodeos throughout the state this summer.

Members participating in rodeo this year include Sylar Carlson, Megan DeLay, John Halverson, Hawk Hill, Sage Hill, Taden Jacobs, Reese Larson, Autumn Maxfield, Ava Nelson, Taya Skiles, Jade Twedt, Taten Twedt, Rayna Van Bochove, Andrew VanKekerix and Lenae Wiersma.

Five members qualified in numerous events for the state rodeo, which was Aug. 19-21 in Fort Pierre. To qualify for the state rodeo, contestants need to place in the top four in their event at a regional rodeo.

Sage Hill qualified for state rodeo finals in junior girls breakaway and junior girls flag race. John Halverson qualified in senior tie down and senior team roping. Taten Twedt qualified in senior tie down and senior team roping. Taya Skiles qualified in senior girls barrels and senior girls breakaway. Megan DeLay qualified in senior girls breakaway, ribbon roping and senior team roping.

On day one of the Sioux Empire 4-H Rodeo in Sioux Falls, Sage Hill was third in junior girls flag race with a time of 10.117 seconds. John Halverson was fourth in senior boys tie down with a time of 15.290 seconds. Taya Skiles was second in senior girls barrels with a time of 15.594 seconds. Lenae Wiersma was eighth in senior girls barrels with a time of 16.1 seconds. Megan DeLay was second in senior girls ribbon roping with a time of 14.780 seconds.

On day two of the Sioux Empire 4-H Rodeo, Lenae Wiersma was ninth in senior girls barrels with a time of 16.330 seconds. Ava Nelson was 10th in senior girls barrels with a time of 16.345 seconds. Taya Skiles was first in senior girls breakaway with a time of 2.83 seconds. Megan DeLay was fourth in senior girls breakaway with a time of 3.710 seconds.

Reese Larson was ninth in senior girls poles with a time of 23.484 seconds. Taten Twedt was second in senior team roping with a time of 8.563 seconds. John Halverson was sixth in senior team roping with a time of 21.003 seconds.

On day one of the Burke 4-H Rodeo, Hawk Hill was ninth in junior boys flag race with a time of 11.903 seconds. Sage Hill placed third in junior girls breakaway with a time of 5.560 seconds and eighth in junior girls flag race with a time of 10.402 seconds.

On day one of the Sioux Area 4-H Rodeo in Sioux Falls, Jade Twedt placed eighth in junior girls flag race with a time of 10.320 seconds. John Halverson placed first in the senior boys tie down with a time of 13.270 seconds. Taten Twedt was seventh in the senior boys tie down with a time of 23.040 seconds. Ava Nelson was ninth in senior girls barrels with a time of 16.757 seconds. Megan DeLay was third in senior girls breakaway with a time of 3.1 seconds. Rayna VanBochove was third in senior girls goats with a time of 10.410 seconds. Ava Nelson was 10th in senior girls goats with a time of 21.890 seconds. Megan DeLay was first in senior team roping with a time of 9.060 seconds. Taten Twedt was third in senior team roping with a time of 14.230 seconds. John Halverson was fifth in senior team roping with a time of 15.860 seconds. Andrew VanKekerix was 10th in senior team roping with a time of 44.690 seconds.

On day two of the Sioux Area 4-H Rodeo, Hawk Hill was 10th in the junior boys flag race with a time of 10.951 seconds. Jade Twedt was ninth in junior girls barrels with a time of 16.222 seconds and seventh in junior girls flag race with a time of 9.559 seconds. Taten Twedt was second in senior boys tie down with a time of 12.260 seconds. Ava Nelson was 10th in senior girls barrels with a time of 15.675 seconds. Taten Twedt was second in senior boys team roping with a time of 12.340 seconds. John Halverson was third in senior boys team roping with a time of 14.480 seconds.

On day one of the Eastern Dakota 4-H Rodeo in Watertown, Megan DeLay was second in senior girls ribbon roping with a time of 9.810 seconds.

On day two of the Eastern Dakota 4-H Rodeo, John Halverson was first in senior boys tie down with a time of 15.060 seconds. Mega DeLay was sixth in senior girls breakaway with a time of 3.980 seconds and second in senior girls ribbon roping with a time of 19 seconds.

At the South Central 4-H Rodeo in Kennebec, Lenae Wiersma was seventh in senior girls barrels with a time of 17.3 seconds.

On day one of the Heartland 4-H Rodeo in Huron, Jade Twedt was seventh in junior girls barrels with a time of 17.924 seconds. Taten Twedt was third in senior boys tie down with a time of 15.790 seconds.

On day two of the Heartland 4-H Rodeo, Ava Nelson was seventh in senior girls poles with a time of 22.481 seconds. Megan DeLay was fifth in senior ribbon roping with a time of 12.060 seconds. John Halverson was second in senior team roping with a time of 13.1 seconds. Taten Twedt was fourth in senior team roping with a time of 14.850 seconds.

On day one of the Clark 4-H Rodeo in Clark, Jade Twedt was ninth in junior girls flag race with a time of 11.479 seconds. Megan DeLay was third in senior girls breakaway with a time of 3.92 seconds and sixth in senior ribbon roping with a time of 25.72 seconds. John Halverson was seventh in senior team roping with a time of 18.185 seconds. Andrew VanKekerix was ninth in senior team roping with a time of 22.16 seconds. Taten Twedt was 10th in senior team roping with a time of 29.045 seconds.

On day two of the Clark 4-H Rodeo, John Halverson was third in senior boys tie down with a time of 16.030 seconds and first in senior team roping with a time of 9.170 seconds. Taten Twedt was eighth in senior boys tie down with a time of 18.730 seconds. Ava Nelson was eighth in senior girls poles with a time of 22.678 seconds. Megan DeLay was third in senior team roping with a time of 19.440 seconds.
