LHS wrestlers celebrate senior night, shine at Brookings Tournament: Ramsey Williams, Grant Larson named Tournament Champs

The Lennox High School wrestling teams competed in a busy two-day stretch, hosting a home quad on Friday, Jan. 30, before traveling to Brookings on Saturday, Jan. 31, where the Orioles turned in a standout performance at the Les Tlustos Tournament.

Friday night’s home quad also served as senior night, honoring seniors Ramsey Williams, Preston Otte, and Nate Airens for their dedication to the LHS wrestling program.

In varsity boys action, Lennox faced strong competition, falling to Sioux Falls Lincoln 51-24, Sioux Falls Washington 44-28, and Yankton 53-24. Despite the team scores, several Orioles picked up impressive individual wins throughout the night.

Ramsey Williams, back after an injury sidelined him, recorded wins in all three duals. Williams earned falls over Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Yusuf Mire and Washington’s Aiden Smith, and added a major decision victory over Yankton’s Zane Portillo. Grant Larson also went unbeaten on the night, collecting falls against Lincoln’s Saxon Kouril and Yankton’s CorBin Sayler, along with a technical fall against Washington’s Zayden Lee. Sullivan Weeldreyer, Jase Thoms, and Preston Otte each added wins during the quad.

The LHS girls also competed in the quad, with several strong individual performances. Nika Rasmussen went a perfect 3-0, earning falls over Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls Washington and a decision victory against Yankton. Rosearia Rohrer recorded multiple falls, including quick pins against Lincoln, Yankton, and Washington opponents. Marin Bartscher added a fall against Sioux Falls Lincoln.

On Saturday, the Orioles made a major statement at the Les Tlustos Tournament in Brookings, producing five place winners, including two individual champions.

Ramsey Williams (150 lbs) captured the championship with an outstanding run, highlighted by a victory over the No. 2-ranked wrestler in the state in the finals. Williams opened the tournament with a first-period fall, followed by two technical falls in the quarterfinals and semifinals, before sealing the title with an 11-5 decision over Pierre T.F. Riggs’ Jordan Schafer in the championship match.

Grant Larson (175 lbs) was equally dominant, winning all four of his matches by fall or technical fall. Larson pinned his first-round and semifinal opponents and ended the tournament emphatically with a 30-second fall in the championship match over Dell Rapids’ Breck Evans to claim the title.

On the girls side, Lennox placed two wrestlers on the podium. Rosearia Rohrer (140 lbs) battled through the consolation bracket to earn third place, collecting five falls during the tournament. Marin Bartscher (135 lbs) also secured third place, recording multiple falls, including a pin in the third-place match.

Adding to the team’s success, Cade Aasheim (132 lbs) placed seventh, fighting through the consolation rounds with three wins.
