LHS volleyball team defeats Vermillion, Tri-Valley


The Lennox High School Volleyball team faced off against Vermillion and Tri-Valley last Week. In their first clash of the week against Vermillion on Tuesday, Aug. 29, Lennox came out swinging, grabbing the 3-0 win (25-18, 25-23, 25-22).

Dani Highum was a standout player with 14 kills, nine digs, and a critical block. Libby Kranz contributed five kills, Ella Grengs added four kills, Ashlee Sweeter showcased her serving prowess with four aces and ten digs, Lilly Meyer provided 15 set assists, and Addison Martz chipped in with one block.

“The team had an amazing hitting game. Dani hit at a .400%, which is phenomenal,” said LHS head coach Vanessa Gabel. “The sets where really only close because we had a poor serving night. Overall, the coaching staff is very pleased with this first full match of the year.”

The Orioles continued their winning streak in their second match-up of the week against Tri-Valley on Thursday, Aug. 31. The Orioles won all three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-20.

Captain Highum continued to lead the charge with eight kills, eight digs, and five aces. Ryan Hanssen contributed seven kills, while Kranz added five kills to the team’s tally. Grengs displayed her versatility with 14 set assists, three blocks, and two aces. Meyer provided nine set assists, Carli Kuyper contributed four kills and two blocks, and Martz chipped in with three kills and three blocks. Sweeter had six digs and two aces.

“The blocking started coming alive with Carli Kuyper and Addison Martz taking charge at the net and shutting down the Mustang attack game,” said Gabel.

Lennox hosts Madison this Thursday, Sept. 7.
