LHS softball team wraps up regular season

The Lennox High School softball team fell to West Central High School, 8-2, on Thursday, May 21, in a late-season match-up.

West Central took control early, scoring three runs in the opening inning. Ayla Kramer drove in the first run with a single before Miley Travis and Sophie Rolfson each collected RBI hits to give West Central a 3-0 advantage.

The Orioles were held scoreless through the first four innings as West Central pitcher Linzie Hoff kept Lennox off balance at the plate. Lennox managed just one hit through four innings, coming on a fourth-inning single by Jersey Zahn.

Lennox broke through in the top of the fifth inning when Lauren Anacker blasted a solo home run to center field, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

West Central responded with a big inning in the bottom half of the fifth. Sophie Rolfson delivered a two-run double and Stella Siemonsma added an RBI double as West Central extended its lead to 7-1.

The Orioles added another run in the sixth inning after Aleeah Oltmanns doubled and later scored on a Jersey Zahn RBI single to center field.

West Central added its final run in the bottom of the sixth when Ayla Kramer connected on a solo home run to center field to make the score 8-2.

Jersey Zahn led Lennox offensively with two hits and one RBI, while Lauren Anacker recorded the Orioles’ lone extra-base hit with her solo homer. Oltmanns added a double in the sixth inning.

Hayley Hahn started in the circle for Lennox, while Layci Eli pitched in relief during the sixth inning.

The team’s final regular season game against Centerville was canceled due to weather conditions. 

The Orioles were scheduled to host Milbank on Tuesday, May 26, in SoDak 16 action, with the winner advancing to the State A Tournament.

The South Dakota Class A State Softball Tournament will be held June 4-6 in Aberdeen.
