The Lennox High School softball team delivered a dominant performance on Friday, April 24, shutting out Gayville-Volin 10-0 behind a strong outing in the circle from Layci Eli and a balanced offensive attack.

Lennox wasted no time getting on the board at the bottom of the first inning. Hailey Seelen sparked the offense with a leadoff double before Eli reached on a bunt single and advanced on an error, allowing Seelen to score. Eli later crossed the plate on a groundout by Hayley Hahn to give the Orioles an early 2-0 advantage.

From there, Eli took control in the circle. The Lennox pitcher kept Gayville-Volin off balance all game, recording multiple strikeouts and limiting  Gayville-Volin to minimal offensive opportunities. She worked through early defensive miscues and settled in, retiring hitters efficiently through the middle innings.

The Orioles broke the game open in the second inning, plating four runs to extend their lead to 6-0. Lauren Anacker and Jersey Zahn each reached base to set up the rally before Eli delivered an RBI single. Teagen Sturm followed with a two-run double to cap the inning.

Lennox continued to add on in the third when Anacker drove in another run with a single, pushing the lead to 7-0.

The offense stayed aggressive in the fourth as Hahn added an RBI single to score Eli, extending the advantage to 8-0.

Eli and Seelen continued to lead the charge late in the game. In the sixth inning, Seelen singled and later scored on Eli’s RBI base hit. Peyton Wright then delivered another run-scoring single to bring the game to its final 10-0 margin.

Eli’s all-around performance highlighted the win, as she not only controlled the game in the circle with nine strikeouts but also contributed four hits and three RBIs at the plate.

Lennox will look to carry that momentum into its upcoming games, traveling to Vermillion on Thursday, April 30, before returning home to host Tri-Valley on Friday, May 1 in a 4 p.m. match-up.
