The South Dakota State One Act Festival was held at Brandon Valley Feb. 5–7, and the Lennox High School One Act team capped off a strong season with a successful performance and multiple awards.

Lennox qualified for the state competition after capturing first-place honors at the Region 2A Competition at the end of January. At State, the group had another strong performance bringing home several awards.

Lennox earned a Superior Technical Award, recognizing the work of Chase Hazuka, Harper Lee, Natalie Aesoph, Kaydence Gerry, Andie Brende, Sophie Wood, Lincoln Allie, and Jacob Carlson. In addition, the team received four individual acting awards, presented to Isaiah Sayler, Miriam Welch, Isaak Booker, and Ariana Poppens. Cast and crew are pictured above.

This year’s production marked a shift in tone for the Lennox One Act program. Miss Matched is a comedy, a departure from the dramatic performances the group has presented over the past three years.

The play is set in an abandoned greenhouse behind Everwood Academy, where Piper launches her matchmaking service, “Miss Matched,” in an attempt to “solve love at Everwood.” Using an algorithm she created, Piper and her partner Calvin promise to find perfect matches for their classmates ahead of the school dance. As expected, the plan quickly unravels, leading to comedic chaos and a surprise ending—even Piper doesn’t see coming.
