The Lennox High School junior varsity baseball team opened strong and never let up in an 11-1 victory over Parker on Sunday, March 29, using patient at-bats, aggressive baserunning and solid pitching to secure the win in four innings.

Lennox took control early after a scoreless top of the first inning, with Grayden Veurink setting the tone on the mound by striking out two Parker batters and allowing no baserunners in the opening frame. Veurink struck out the first batter looking, induced a groundout, then ended the inning with another strikeout.

In the bottom half of the inning, Lennox capitalized on Parker pitching troubles to build a 4-0 advantage. After Noah Hansen grounded out to begin the inning, Veurink reached on a walk and Madix Oltmanns was hit by a pitch. A series of walks, wild pitches and passed balls allowed runs to score as Carson Eden, Veurink, and Bode Sweeter all reached base. Cole Dressen added another walk, and Ace Reilly was hit by a pitch to force home Lennox’s fourth run.

The Orioles added three more runs in the second inning to stretch the lead to 7-0.

Ashton Hermanson led off with a double to left field, and Landon Kolthoff reached on an error. Lance Aasheim delivered a sacrifice fly to score Hermanson, while Karter Herren followed with an RBI double to left. Later in the inning, Syler Bittner reached on an error that allowed another run to cross.

Veurink remained dominant on the mound in the second inning, striking out all three Parker batters he faced.

Parker scored its only run in the third inning after loading the bases against reliever Isaac Vietor. A hit batter brought in a run, but Vietor limited further damage by recording three strikeouts in the inning.

Lennox answered with four more runs in the bottom of the third to put the game out of reach. Vietor opened with a single, and Andrew Stansaas followed with a bunt single. Aggressive baserunning helped Lennox add to its lead, as Vietor stole home and Stansaas later scored during the sequence. Veurink then delivered a triple to right field to drive in Hansen, and Oltmanns reached on an error that plated another run for an 11-1 advantage.

In the fourth inning, Vietor closed the door. After allowing two singles, Lennox turned a double play to end the game, with Dressen making the defensive play at shortstop.

On the mound, Veurink struck out five batters over two scoreless innings, and Vietor added four strikeouts in relief.
