With a second place finish in the final girls’ event of the State A Track & Field meet, the Lennox High School girls secured a second place team finish behind first place Sioux Falls Christian.
The LHS girls were led by Bergan Musser who placed third in the 100 meter dash finals with a time of 12.38 seconds, third in the 200 meter dash finals with a time of 26.16 seconds, and third in the long jump, jumping a distance of 17’1”.
Musser was also a member of the 4x200 meter relay team that captured second place honors with their season best time of 1:46.32. Other team members of the runner-up relay team included Tori Gerdes, Karlie Bosma, and Jayla DeCou.
Gerdes, Bosma, DeCou and Kenzie Bosma teamed up in the 4x400 meter relays where they captured third place honors to push Lennox up into second place as a team. The foursome clocked a time of 4:03.29 in the event.
Kenzie and Karlie Bosma paired up with Adie McVey and Kelsey Schmidt in the girls’ 4x800 meter relay to earn State runner-up honors in the event. The group finished with a time of 9:44.15.
Karlie Bosma also earned an individual medal in the girls’ 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.47. Adie McVey and Kelsey Schmidt also competed in the event at State.
Gerdes won an individual medal in the 300 meter hurdles where she claimed fifth at State with a time of 46.38 seconds.
Claiming fourth place individual honors for the LHS girls was Holly Gillick. Holly clearing 5’2” in the high jump to take fourth. Dani Highum and Ryan Hanssen also competed in the event.
Highum earned a spot on the podium in the javelin throw, throwing a personal best 117’11” to take third place. Lilly Meyer and Addison Martz also competed in the event at State.
Other LHS girls competing at State included: DeCou in the 100 meter prelims; Schmidt in the 1600 meter run and 3200 meter run; Martz in the discus and shot put; Highum in the long jump; and Mia Hanisch and Ashley Bondesen in the shot put. Adelynn Timmermans, Gerdes, DeCou and McVey also competed int he Sprint Medley Relay.
For the LHS boys, Layton Smith reached the podium taking sixth in the high jump after clearing 6’1”. Tate Gerdes and Teegan Musser also competed in the event.
The Lennox boys also found success in the relays at State with the 4x100 meter relay team of Ethan Larson, Jaxson Bittner, Corben Hanneman, and Boston Katzer running a season best time of 44.33 to take fourth place. The boys’ 4x200 meter relay team of Larson, Bittner, Katzer, and Drake Mikkelsen took seventh with a time of 1:32.54 in the event.
The boys’ 4x400 meter relay team of Mikkelsen, Noah Sayler, Chett Jibben, and Cade Sherard took seventh place with a time of 3:34.15. The boys’ 4x800 meter relay team of Sayler, Cloy McVey, Jibben, and Sherard captured fifth place with a time of 8:24.39.
Other LHS boys competing at State included Katzer in the 100 meter prelims; Larson in the 200 meter prelims; Mikkelsen in the 300 meter hurdles prelims; Sherard, McVey, and Sayler in the 800 meter run; McVey and Sayler in the 1600 meter run; Bittner and Smith in the long jump; Emory Lefers in the shot put; and Tate Gerdes in the triple jump. Larson, Bittner, Mikkelsen, and Sherard also competed int he Sprint Medley relay.
Winning the Class A boys and girls team titles was Sioux Falls Christian.
