The Lennox High School girls’ basketball team enjoyed a busy week of basketball last week, defeating Elk Point Jefferson and Baltic, before falling to Hamlin in a tight match-up against two of the top teams in the State on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Against Elk Point Jefferson on Tuesday, Feb. 3, Lennox led 18-9 after the opening quarter, going on to get the 52-35 victory.

“It’s always good to pick up a DAK XII win, especially on the road,” said LHS head coach Adam Quail.

Against EPJ, Karlie Bosma scored 13 points, Andie Peters 12 and Bergan Musser ten. Adie McVey added eight, Olivia Niederbaumer four, Libby Kranz and Tori Gerdes two each and Teagen Sturm one.

Leading the team in rebounds was Gerdes with eight, Musser had seven, and Bosma pulled down five. Sturm led in assists with four, Kranz and Peters each had three assists. Bosma led the team in steals with four in the game.

On Feb. 5 against Baltic, Lennox opened the game up, leading 27-7 after the first quarter. They continued to dominate, holding Baltic scoreless in the third quarter and only two points in both the second and third quarters to get the 68-11 win.

“I thought the girls moved the ball extremely well, which made for fun basketball to watch. Libby Kranz, Teagen Sturm, and Andie Peters all shot the ball well, and Tori Gerdes had a big night on the boards with 10 rebounds,” said Quail.

Peters also scored her 1,000th career point against Baltic.

“Congratulations to Andie Peters…she has spent countless extra hours in the gym working to become the best player she can be, and reaching this milestone is a direct result of that hard work,” said Quail. “Andie has also had a lot of great teammates throughout her career who have helped her reach this goal.”

Peters becomes the seventh Lennox girls’ basketball player to reach the 1,000-point mark.

Peters finished the game with 11 points, going three of six from downtown. She also had two assists and three steals.

Kranz finished the game against Baltic with 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. Sturm had ten points, three assists and two steals. Gerdes had seven points, ten rebounds, and one steal. McVey also had seven points and four assists and two steals. Musser had six points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal. Jayla DeCou, Bosma, and Niederbaumer each had four points. Mia Hanisch finished with two points, three rebounds, and a steal.

On Saturday, Feb.7 the Orioles had a rematch with Hamlin, and with the score tied at 17-all at half, Lennox was unable to get the win, falling 45-42.

“We missed some opportunities early in the game where I felt we could have taken control. We couldn’t quite get over the hump, and unfortunately, we contributed to Hamlin getting 35 free-throw attempts, which resulted in 23 points—over half of their total,” said Quail. “I thought we did a good job attacking the rim, but we struggled to finish or earn trips to the free-throw line. This was another learning experience that will only make us tougher heading into postseason play.”

Against Hamlin, Peters finished with 13 points, two rebounds, and one steal. Kranz had eight points, seven rebounds and Musser had six and McVey five. Both Bosma and Gerdes each had four points and Niederbaumer added two.

The LHS girls will be in action again on Tuesday, Feb. 17 when they host Beresford in a 6:30 p.m. match-up. They host Tri-Valley on Thursday, Feb. 19.
