Last week the Lennox High School girls’ basketball team took on Dakota Valley on Jan. 20 and West Central on Jan. 22 and grabbed two more victories on the year, defeating the Panthers 50-40 and the Trojans 55-28.
Against Dakota Valley, Lennox trailed 16-12 after the first quarter but outscored the Panthers 11-5 in the second and 15-6 in the third.
“Versus Dakota Valley I thought we came out a little slow possibly due to the fact that it was our fourth game in seven days and that we were just coming off of a tough loss vs Mahpiya Luta,” said LHS head coach Adam Quail. “However, in the second half we found our footing and were able to create some separation. Tori Gerdes got us going offensively by being aggressive to the rim which really put pressure on defensive and led to her shooting ten free throws.”
Gerdes led the way for the Orioles with 14 points in the game. She was four of five from the field and hit six at the foul line. She also grabbed eight rebounds, had two assists and two steals. Andie Peters hit three three-pointers in the game and finished with nine points. She also grabbed two rebounds, and had three assists and three steals. Libby Kranz finished with eight points, one rebound, one assist and one steal.
Finishing with seven points were Teagen Sturm and Bergan Musser. Sturm also grabbed six rebounds, had two steals and one assists. Musser had six rebounds and two steals in the game. Mia Hanisch scored two points and Adie McVey, Karlie Bosma, and Olivia Niederbaumer each had one. McVey had five rebounds, two steals; Bosma had seven rebounds and one assist and Niederbaumer had three rebounds.
Following their win over Dakota Valley, the Orioles handled business at West Central opening up the game against the Trojans with a 19-8 first quarter advantage.
“Unlike the Dakota Valley game we really started the game focused and executed well. West Central is a really good team but to hold them to 28 total points was quite an accomplishment,” said Quail.
The Orioles continued to roll, outscoring West Central 17-7 in the fourth for the 55-28 victory.
Musser and Bosma paced the Orioles with 12 points each. Musser also had six rebounds and two assists. Bosma grabbed one rebound, had three assists and three steals. Peters, Gerdes, and Niederbaumer each had six points in the game. Peters also had two rebounds and one assists. Gerdes grabbed eight rebounds and one had two steals and Niederbaumer had eight rebounds as well.
Sturm and McVey each had five points. Sturm also had two assists and three steals. McVey had three assists and two rebounds. Jayla DeCou had two points and Hanisch provided one point for the Orioles.
