LHS cross country team holds Lennox Invite

Lennox High School’s lone home cross country meet was held this past Thursday, Sept. 28.

Lennox’s Maverick Horst led the LHS varsity boys with a 13th place finish among the 89 runners. He clocked a time of 17:14.28 in the 5K race. Cloy McVey secured the 25th position with a strong finish time of 17:50.27.Cade Sherard finished closely behind, clocking in at 17:53.84, to finish 26th. Noah Sayler finished with a solid time of 18:07.90, earning him the 31st position and Chett Jibben finished the race with a time of 18:39.38 to take 38th place. Lucas Hartman also competed for Lennox, taking 52nd with a time of 19:24.76. Elijah Johnson took 59th (19:39.59) and Noah Wood 60th (19:40.05).

For the LHS varsity girls, Kelsey Schmidt delivered a strong performance for the Orioles, finishing 14th in the 5K race with a time of 19:55.88.Adie McVey secured the 19th position, crossing the finish line in 20:23.83. Kamille Schmidt finishing in 35th with a time of 21:44.21. Regan Van Meeteren completed the race in 21:47.12, earning the 37th spot. Josephine Plucker finished in 38th with a time of 21:51.75 and Karlie Bosma clocked a time of 22:00.36, securing the 40th position. Allison Loewe finished in 56th place with a time 23:23.45.

In the Junior Varsity boys 4K race, Noah Werner represented Lennox well by securing the 8th place with a time of 14:58.61. Andrew Stensaas was close behind finishing 11th in the race with a time of 15:05.40. Connor Sherard secured the 28th position with a time of 16:06.04. Landon Atkins earned the 32th place with a time of 16:23.45, Cade Aasheim 46th (17:00.34), Isaiah Sayler 53rd (17:26.66), Duncan Johnson 57th (17:33.24), Riley Nelson 67th (18:03.47), Jack Aasheim 76th (18:34.84), Caleb Ellwein 85th (19:20.05), Karson Iken 86th (19:24.08), and Jan Montero 88th (19:30.92).

For the Junior Varsity girls, Holly Gillick delivered an outstanding performance, securing sixth place with a time of 17:22.23 to lead the Orioles. Ellianna Thill finishing 18th in the race with a time of 18:14.95, Kassidy Williamson 32nd with a time of 19:57.17, Jenna Duncan 36th with a time of 20:11.69, Graycee Postma 39th with a time of 20:25.50, Callie Hammerstrom 42nd with a time of 20:33.42, and Jaelyn Fergen 59th with a time 22:15.48.

Following the Junior Varsity races, a mixed Junior High 3K race was held. Lennox’s Landon Strasser had a remarkable performance, finishing first with a time of 10:26.98. Izaak Booker secured the fourth position with a time of 10:58.93. Leo Aesoph finished fifth in the race with a time of 10:59.18. Jackson Schmidt took 11th (11:27.97), Charley Bittner 15th (11:45.02), race Wood 21st (13:56.25), Lucy Carlson 23rd (14:04.86), Braylon Plucker 27th (12:30.89), Kaydence Gerry 33rd (15:11.88), Ava Elk Boy 34th (15:12.02), Harper Walsh 40th (16:05.08), Lance Aasheim 46th (13:37.55) and Keegan Vander Plaats 62nd (15:49.11).

On Thursday, Oct. 5 the Orioles will compete in the Conference Meet at Vermillion. Races are set to begin at 3 p.m. Regions will be held Oct. 12 at Canton, beginning at 1 p.m.

The 2023 State Meet will be held at Huron on Oct. 21.
