LHS boys earn trio of wins

On Tuesday, Jan. 16 the Lennox High School boys’ basketball team hosted Chamberlain and came away with a 74-37 victory.

“Against Chamberlain, our guys finally got out in transition the way that we have wanted to,” said LHS head coach Chris Buckmiller. “Now that we have improved defensively, we can now get out and play in transition. We will need to build off of this momentum as we near the mid point of our season.”

Against Chamberlain Braxton Musser led the way with 17 points, hitting three of five from downtown. He also had eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Tate Gerdes finished the night with 15 points. He had five rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

Teegan Musser finished with nine points, five rebounds; Talen Eich had nine points; Cole Spieler provided eight points, three rebounds; both Talen Diercks and Pierce Temme had six point each, and Trey Gerdes and Cloy McVey each had two points. Diercks also had six assists in the game.

On Thursday, Jan. 18 the Orioles traveled to West Central and battled to get the 49-43 victory over the Trojans.

“Our West Central game on the road was a battle. We didn’t shoot a high percentage from the field but had our best defensive performance by far,” said Buckmiller. “In practice, we spend a good amount of time covering the scout. We want our guys to understand how to defend certain players and also how to guard plays that the other team may run. Our guys did a tremendous job at executing what we practiced. It’s been a blast seeing so many players in our program have success. Many players have stepped up into big roles when their name has been called.”

B. Musser once again led the team with 19 points, hitting five three-pointers in the game. Tate Gerdes had a double-double, scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. He also had three assists and three steals. Drake Mikkelsen had six points, seven rebounds and one steal. Boston Katzer finished with four points, four assists and both Eich and T. Musser finished with three points each.

The Orioles defeated Platte-Geddes at home on Monday, Jan. 22, 82-40 with strong three-point shooting. They will host Parkston this Thursday, Jan. 25 in double-header action with the LHS girls.
