Last week, the Lennox High School boys’ basketball team enjoyed a trio of wins, defeating Beresford, Tri-Valley, and Dell Rapids.

On Tuesday, Feb. 17, the Orioles hosted Beresford and earned the 57-36 victory.

“This was a great night to showcase our seniors on senior night. It was great to see the balance of scoring with a multitude of players in the box score,” said LHS head coach Jacob Hinker. “Talen Eich, Tate Gerdes, Eli Highum, Elijah Johnson, Teegan Musser, and Cole Spieler have dedicated a lot of time to our program over the past four seasons, and we are proud of them.”

Against Beresford, leading the way for the Seniors was Gerdes, who scored 14 points. He also had six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Other seniors also contributed in scoring with Highum scoring three points, Eich three points, Spieler seven, Musser six, and Johnson two. Highum also had two rebounds, two steals; Eich had four rebounds; Spieler had three rebounds, three assists, and one steal; Musser had three rebounds and two assists, and Johnson had two rebounds.

Also scoring for the Orioles were Aiden Hanssen, who led the team in scoring with 16. He also had six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Drake Mikkelsen finished with four points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Brennen Juffer had two points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

On Thursday, Feb. 19, the LHS boys hosted Tri-Valley and jumped ahead early and never looked back, getting the 58-18 win.

“The boys tied their season low for points given up in a game this year and it was awesome to see how committed they were to the defensive end from start to finish,” said Hinker. “At practice, the boys have been dedicated to continuing to improve on the defensive end and a game like this showcases that commitment.”

Hanssen once again led the Orioles with 15 points. He had six rebounds, three assists, and a team-high six steals. Gerdes finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Musser finished with six points, two rebounds, and two steals. Spieler and Mikkelsen each had five points. Spieler also grabbed five rebounds, and Mikkelsen grabbed one and had two assists and one steal. Highum provided four points and grabbed three rebounds. Chase Lundquist and Eich each had three points. Eli Plank, Cohen Soukup, and Blayze Spielman each had two points. Plank also had three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

On Friday, Feb. 20 the Orioles traveled to Dell Rapids and earned the 64-47 victory.

“It was good to end our week with a win after playing our third game in four days. We came out a little bit slow in the first half, but then came out of halftime and played a good second half,” said Hinker.

Gerdes led the team with 30 points in the game. Hanssen added 19, Musser and Spieler five each, Highum three and Plank two. The LHS boys will face off against Dakota Valley on Friday, Feb. 27 at home in their final regular-season game. Tip-off is set for 6:45 p.m.
