LHS baseball earns wins over Garretson, Yankton and West Central

On Wednesday, Apr. 10 the Lennox High School boys’ baseball team took on Garretson and won, 10-0. Cole Spieler drove in four runs on two hits to lead Lennox. Spieler doubled in the second to score to runs, hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to score one and singled in the sixth, to bring another runner home. 

Lennox began scoring in the bottom of the second after Isaac Bambas singled, scoring one run. Talen Eich doubled to score a run in the inning as well and Spieler’s double to score two gave the Orioles a 4-0 after two innings. 

Lennox scored twice more in the bottom of the fourth, once in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the bottom of the sixth. 

Jackson Anacker earned the win for the Orioles on the mound. He gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking two. Mason Reischl tossed one inning in relief. He gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking none. 

Jaxson Bittner, Eich and Bambas each stole multiple bases for Lennox with Bambas leading the way with four in the game. 

On Saturday, Apr. 13 the Orioles traveled to Yankton and came away with a 5-4 victory. 

The game was tied at four in the top of the seventh when Dayne Moeller was struck by a pitch to drive in Braxton Musser, giving Lennox the 5-4 edge and eventual victory. 

Yankton led early, taking a 1-0 advantage after the second inning but in the third Lennox managed to score two runs of their own as Eich doubled to score two runs. Yankton took the 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth, before Moeller singled to score two runs in the top of the sixth, putting Lennox up 4-3. 

On the mound for Lennox was Moeller who earned the win. He allowed one hit and one run over two innings, striking out five and walking one. Spieler started on the mound for the Orioles, allowing one hit and two runs over three innings. He struck out four and walked three. Bittner appeared in relief for the Orioles. He allowed one hit and recorded four strike outs. 

In the game, Gabe Veurink, Eich, Bambas, Corban Hanneman and Moeller each collected one hit for Lennox. 

On Sunday, Apr. 14 the Orioles hosted West Central and earned the 4-2 victory. The Orioles opened the scoring in the first after Spieler singled to bring in four runs. Spieler went two of three at bat on the day. 

Also recording a hit in the game were Bambas, Eich, and Moeller. 

West Central scored one run in the top of the third and one more in the top of sixth but were unable to come back from Lennox’s four run opening inning. 

Bambas earned the win for Lennox on the mound, allowing three hits and two runs over five innings. He struck out seven and walked three. Eich collected the save, pitching two innings and recording two strike-outs. 

The Orioles were scheduled to travel to Tri-Valley on Wednesday, Apr. 17 and will be at Dell Rapids on Friday, Apr. 19. The team will be at Baltic on Apr. 24 before a home match-up against McCook Central/Montrose on Sunday, Apr. 28.
